Out of This World
Freakwater Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's almost time now
It's almost over
Sooner than later I'll be dead and gone
Out of this world
Out of this world

I guess that I'll miss
Some of the good times
It'll be fine for me to be moving on
Out of this world
Out of this world

Out of this world and into another
A kinder world, a world that's better
Out of this world

Out of my mind
Out of my body
Nothing will hurt me and I'll be so happy
Out of this world
Out of this world

And you all will me
And then you'll forget me
But that won't upset me
Because nothing will get to me
Out of this world
Out of this world

Out of this world and into another
A kinder world, a world that's better
Out of this world

It's almost time now
It's almost over

Sooner than later I'll be dead and gone
Out of this world

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Freakwater's song 'Out of this World' seem to present an acceptance of death that simultaneously embraces the unknown and distantly mourns the present life that will soon be left behind. The song repeatedly emphasizes the phrase "out of this world," which metaphorically represents the finality and transition of death. The singer reflects on their life, acknowledging the good times they will miss but ultimately stating that it is okay to move on. The chorus arguably serves as the emotional crux of the song, as the singer portrays death as a passage into a kinder, better world where they will be free from hurt and pain. The song seems to suggest that death is as much a natural part of life as living itself.

Overall, the song's mood is somewhat somber, but also possesses a sense of peace and calmness. The acceptance of an inevitable fate is palpable in the lyrics, and the singer even suggests that being forgotten after dying will not affect them since they will be free from earthly concerns. Perhaps the song is meant to be a reflection on the impermanence of life and a reminder to appreciate the present, while also acknowledging the inevitability of mortality.

I loved this band back in my Chicago days. Saw them play plenty and got to know the gals a little bit. I love this version of the LWIII song, so mournful and touching. I just sent it to a dear friend who lost her dad this week, in hopes it brings her comfort. I hope these folks are still making music, and making people smile.
