I Fell in Love With Your Picture
Freddie & The Dreamers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Before we ever knew each other
You didn't know it
But your brother let me see
A picture of his sister
I fell in love with your picture
Before I ever kissed you
I didn't know, who didn't know me
Standing there with your golden hair
Smiling like an angel
Just one look was all it took
And my heart was yours
You're so appealing
I fell in love with your picture
Oh, what a crazy feeling
To fall in love with someone who
I didn't know, who didn't know me
Now here we are so very close
And you are all I dreamed you would be
The lyrics to Freddie & The Dreamers' "I Fell in Love With Your Picture" describe the feeling of falling in love with someone simply by looking at their picture. The singer admits that he fell in love with the person in the picture before ever meeting them in person or even kissing them. The picture is not just any picture, but the sister of someone the singer knows. This suggests that the singer has been admiring the picture from afar, long before they even met the person.
The singer describes the person in the picture as having "golden hair" and smiling "like an angel". He feels that just one look was all it took to make his heart belong to the person in the picture. This reinforces the idea that sometimes love is not something that one can control, that it can come out of nowhere and be sparked by something as simple as a picture.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses surprise that his dream has become a reality, that he is now very close to the person in the picture and that she is everything he ever dreamed she would be. In this way, the song becomes a celebration of the way that love can surprise and fulfill us in ways we never expected.

Nice C3 in the beginning for Freddie, with his light and sweet tone it's a significant low.

Sorry ***** , but this song was taken from the 1968 album; "King Freddie & His Dreaming Knights".. Which flopped. (rare today on LP---which I have)
However, being the last album the Dreamers did with the original line-up.

I know that British artists often released albums using a different title for the Stateside release. I'm not sure if that is what happened here but I knew some one who had an album with this song on it and I don't remember the "King Freddie" title. Two things I do remember about the album are that it was on Mercury records and the song "Funny Over You" was also on the album. I thought Funny Over You was one of his big hits.
I also remember that this album got played a lot. For some reason Freddie and the Dreamers were a lot of fun to sing along with.

JV Smith OK, replying to my own post. The album I was referring to was called "Fun Lovin' Freddie" here in the states. I don't know if it's the exact same album as "King Freddie & His Dreaming Knights" but it did include the 2 songs "Funny Over You" and "I Fell In Love With Your Picture". The album covers were different too.

This version isn't as good as the regular vinyl version. It has Garrity's vocals more solo. It has a "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" feel.
