Hailing from Gary, Indiana, a place whose murder and crime rates have ranked it several times at the top of the "Most Dangerous Cities" list, Freddie Gibbs is the true definition of a street survivor. Raised on Gary's east side, Gibbs lived the hard life firsthand in a run-down industrial community plagued with vice and ignored by the establishment. After playing at Ball State on a football scholarship, Gibbs was kicked out of college. Over the next few years he went through court-ordered boot camp, joined and got discharged from the military, and held down a series of 9 to 5 jobs without success. Feeling like the system had failed him, Gibbs turned to hustling; pimping and selling crack out of a local house. Inspired by rappers like UGK, The Geto Boys, and 2Pac, Gibbs started rhyming about his life and the issues facing urban youth in Gary and the countless other impoverished cities just like it. Gibbs is the first rapper signed to a major label from Gary.
The Steel City's most famous musical residents to date are the Jackson 5, whose name still adorns a marquee on a falling-apart theater in Gary's blighted downtown. His desire to rep the Midwest and his city led Gibbs to start recording mixtapes and pushing them online as well as the streets, where he quickly began garnering fans drawn to his original style, diverse flows, and deeply personal lyrics about his experience as a young black man growing up below the poverty line in a forgotten American city.
Freddie has worked with respected producers like Madlib, Red Spyda, Just Blaze, Buckwild, the Alchemist, Polow Da Don, and Collipark among many others. Gibbs cites Houston rap and Pac as his major influences, and it shows in his ability to alternate between chillingly tense street stories of violence and laid back comedic tales about women and weed. Ultimately Gibbs shows and proves with his rhymes, which demonstrate the promise of a legend in the making. His skills, wit, and street credibility establish Freddie Gibbs as a true artist. He's ready to represent for Gary, the Midwest, and anyone who relates to the struggle of inner city life. As Gibbs tells it: "My music is definitely on some gangsta shit. That's what I was raised on and what I witnessed. How can I speak on anything else?" "Become a fan now, or become one later."

Yea yeah
Fuck it
Kane
Million dollar lick like can't nobody tell me shit, aye
Diamonds in my necklace, VVSs got me lit, aye
I just dropped a brick so big they got it off the lift, aye
I can't lie, still love my baby mama
When she piss me off, I'm on some pimp shit, bumpin' LE$
Throw away that Tony, got me leanin', I can't fight the demons
I just, ri solo in my Beamer, tryna fight the demons, ay
Got that blow from my Dominicano
Got my whole garage on Forgiato
Wood and leather in my El Dorado
I just let them VVSs flood in my cubano
Diamonds in my necklace, VVSs got me lit, aye
Million dollar lick, like can't nobody tell me shit, aye
I just dropped a brick so big, they got it off the lift, aye
Million dollar lick, like can't nobody tell me shit, aye
I can't lie, still get high on prescriptions
Sometimes I go weeks without no sleep, I'm in the 5th dimension
I just caught a body, Luca Brasi, he sleep with the fishes
Fucked up part is when I go to sleep I see this nigga image
Bentley coupe, I guess you niggas out the loop, aye
Your hoe was a layup, threw myself an alley-oop, aye
Served that Tony Toni, when a nigga had no loot, aye
Your hoe was a layup, threw myself a alley-oop, aye
Got that blow from my Dominicano
Got my whole garage on Forgiato
Wood and leather in my El Dorado
I just let 'em VVSs flood in my cubano
Diamonds in my necklace, VVSs got me lit, aye
Million dollar lick, like can't nobody tell me shit, aye
I just dropped a brick so big, they got it off the lift, aye
Million dollar lick, like can't nobody tell me shit, aye
Let me show you, let me take you there
Everything you ever wanted yeah
Let me show you, let me take you there
Everything you ever wanted yeah
Let me show you, everything you
Let me show you, everything you
Let me show you, let me take you there
Everything you ever wanted yeah
Let me show you, let me take you there
Everything you ever wanted yeah
In "Diamonds 2," Freddie Gibbs boasts about his wealth and success, mentioning a "million dollar lick" and the diamonds in his necklace that have him feeling "lit." He also mentions his past struggles with addiction, admitting that he still gets high on prescriptions and sometimes goes weeks without sleep. Despite his money and success, he still loves his baby mama but turns to pimping and listening to LE$ when he gets upset with her. He mentions the demons he's constantly fighting, possibly referring to the negative impacts of his addiction or even the pressures of fame.
The song also references Gibbs' drug dealing past as he alludes to a time when he was broke and had to serve "that Tony Toni," referencing cocaine, when he "had no loot." He flexes his car collection, mentioning his Bentley coupe and his El Dorado, which has wood and leather interiors. He also gives a shoutout to his supplier, a "Dominicano," and talks about letting his "VVSs flood in [his] cubano," referring to the diamonds in his cuban link chain.
Overall, the song is an unapologetic ode to Gibbs' success and past struggles. It highlights his battles with addiction and the pressures of fame, while also showing off his wealth and power.
