Hailing from Gary, Indiana, a place whose murder and crime rates have ranked it several times at the top of the "Most Dangerous Cities" list, Freddie Gibbs is the true definition of a street survivor. Raised on Gary's east side, Gibbs lived the hard life firsthand in a run-down industrial community plagued with vice and ignored by the establishment. After playing at Ball State on a football scholarship, Gibbs was kicked out of college. Over the next few years he went through court-ordered boot camp, joined and got discharged from the military, and held down a series of 9 to 5 jobs without success. Feeling like the system had failed him, Gibbs turned to hustling; pimping and selling crack out of a local house. Inspired by rappers like UGK, The Geto Boys, and 2Pac, Gibbs started rhyming about his life and the issues facing urban youth in Gary and the countless other impoverished cities just like it. Gibbs is the first rapper signed to a major label from Gary.
The Steel City's most famous musical residents to date are the Jackson 5, whose name still adorns a marquee on a falling-apart theater in Gary's blighted downtown. His desire to rep the Midwest and his city led Gibbs to start recording mixtapes and pushing them online as well as the streets, where he quickly began garnering fans drawn to his original style, diverse flows, and deeply personal lyrics about his experience as a young black man growing up below the poverty line in a forgotten American city.
Freddie has worked with respected producers like Madlib, Red Spyda, Just Blaze, Buckwild, the Alchemist, Polow Da Don, and Collipark among many others. Gibbs cites Houston rap and Pac as his major influences, and it shows in his ability to alternate between chillingly tense street stories of violence and laid back comedic tales about women and weed. Ultimately Gibbs shows and proves with his rhymes, which demonstrate the promise of a legend in the making. His skills, wit, and street credibility establish Freddie Gibbs as a true artist. He's ready to represent for Gary, the Midwest, and anyone who relates to the struggle of inner city life. As Gibbs tells it: "My music is definitely on some gangsta shit. That's what I was raised on and what I witnessed. How can I speak on anything else?" "Become a fan now, or become one later."

Was always you
Wanted in my thoughts,
Hoping Ill find you naked, whoa
If her heart tumbles, falls and then breaks
Point down finger share the blame with me, yeah
We can ignore or try,
My conscience got the best of me
Why do I care like?
It plays over and over and over in the back on my mind
I said its over now
So why should I care?
Were boat breathing bad and why should I keep p the fight
So you should come, over now
Get over my, soul now
So you should hang, over now
She gonna kill you
Once she find, once she find, once she find out
She gonna kill you
Once she find, once she find, once she gonna want out
Calm down for heavens sake
This time I wont hesitate, whoa
Saw the apple, took a bite
Though it was wrong, felt so right, whoa,
I see this swarm of red lights
Why do I care like?
It plays over and over and over in the back on my mind
I said its over now
So why should I care?
Were boat breathing bad and why should I keep p the fight
So you should come, over now
Get over my, soul now
So you should hang, over now
She gonna kill you
Once she find, once she find, once she find out
She gonna kill you
Once she find, once she find, once she gonna want out
Stay into my bedroom tonight
Reach out for my hand aint hard to find
Babe dont fight it, its never felt so right
Dont you think we deserve, to love, to love, another round
Lets start it off
So you should come, over now
Get over my, soul now
So you should hang, over now
She gonna kill you
Once she find, once she find, once she find out
She gonna kill you
Once she find, once she find, once she gonna want out.
The song “Face Down” by Freddie Gibbs is a story about infidelity and guilt. Throughout the song, the singer is haunted by feelings of shame and regret for cheating on his partner. He acknowledges that he should have known better and that it was always her he wanted, but he still gave in to temptation. He describes his desire to find his lover naked, which highlights his lustful and selfish nature.
The chorus of the song describes the singer’s inner turmoil. He sees a swarm of red lights, perhaps symbolizing the warning signs he ignored before engaging in the affair. He questions why he cares if it’s over now, and why he should keep fighting for something that’s already doomed. The repetition of the phrase “once she find out” emphasizes the inevitability of his partner discovering the affair and the consequences that will come with it.
Despite his guilt, the singer seems unable to resist his lover’s advances. He asks her to stay in his bedroom and suggests they deserve another round of love. However, the guilt and fear are never far from his mind, and he knows that his partner will eventually find out and seek revenge.
Overall, the song “Face Down” is a poignant commentary on the difficulty of navigating complex emotions like love, lust, and guilt. It highlights the consequences of our actions and the importance of living with integrity.
