I Was Born A Winner
Freddie McGregor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I - - - I was born a winner
I remember the times
When we used to sit in the park
Holding hands together
I never shoulnd have gone away and left your life like this girl
I though you'd take me back
I - - - I was born a winner (I know I am yes I am)
I - - - I was born a winner
My lonely days and my lonely nights girl
On the outside looking in, dreaming of holding you tight
Wel, I guess I've had my day, you let me go my way
Is me who has to pay, a loser they call me but now I'm a winner
yes I am yes I am
I - - - I was born a winner (I know I am yes I am)
I - - - I was born a winner...
The lyrics in Freddie McGregor's song Born A Winner are a declaration of self-belief and endless resilience. The repetition of the line "I was born a winner" highlights the unequivocal confidence that the singer possesses about their inherent nature as a person who always emerges victorious.
The song starts by describing a reminiscence of a past love, where the two individuals would sit in the park, holding hands. However, the singer went away, and despite thinking that they would be able to get back together, they were too late. The pain of the loss leads the singer to feel like a loser.
However, amidst this heartache, the singer realizes that they were born a winner and thus no setback or obstacle could ever bring them down. The singer acknowledges the lonely days and nights, and the fact that they were on the outside looking in, dreaming of holding their past love tight. However, despite all of that, the singer remains resolute in their belief that they are a winner.
The song, therefore, encapsulates a message of self-affirmation and resilience, reminding the listener never to underestimate themselves, and always believe that they are born champions.
