Freddie had always been a big fan of Montserrat Caballé, so when he got the chance to record with her, he jumped on the opportunity. The two originally planned to record only one track, Barcelona - the theme song for the 1992 Summer Olympic Games held in Barcelona, Catalonia. After starting to work together and developing appreciation and respect for each other's music and voices, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé went on to record a whole album Barcelona. Caballé was asked to sing Barcelona at the opening of the Olympic Games in 1992, however she declined as Freddie Mercury, then deceased, could not be present. Caballé deceased the 6 of October 2018 at the age of 85.

This work of Freddie's is absolutely amazing. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It's true it does seem to take you another place, this side of heaven. So beautiful!
@PierrotHG
After all this time listening to Queen, Freddie's voice still amazes me.
@huchlee
Montserra Caballe's version is beautiful to my ears, but Freddie's singing goes straight to my heart and makes me sob.
@AndrewEwing1995
For a rock singer, this is the greatest singing ever
@DeniseEggertwaterlily
This is Freddie singing all the way . There is a very clear difference in the timbre , tone and breath control of Montserrat Caballé . Freddie is very good . Montserrat Caballé is a world famous opera diva .
@Lellobeetle
Quite true. This is definitely NOT Montserrat Caballé voice. As a Caballé student, I can safely say this is quite beautiful but definitely not attributable to Caballé. I have read that she "supposedly" sang it at Covent Garden as an encore, but I think that is quite unlikely.
@sarahb151
Montserrat did sing Exercises in Free Love in an encore at Covent Garden in March 1987. She confirms it herself in an interview “Entrevista Integra 1987” for Spanish television
@sarahb151
And again in an interview in a documentary made by opera singer, Alfie Bow who travels to Barcelona Ritz hotel to meet her. The documentary is called Freddie Mercury saved my life

He sang at such high notes that it takes my breath away ..we all know he had a such a range. Impromptu is one example.
