wie glänzt er festlich, lieb und mild,
als spräch er : Wollt ihr in mir erkennen
getreuer Hoffnung stilles Bild.
2. Die Kinder stehen mit hellen Blicken,
das Auge lacht , es lacht das Herz,
O, fröhlich, seliges Entzücken ,
3. Zwei Engel sind hereingetreten,
kein Auge hat sie kommen sehn,
sie gehen zum Weihnachtsbaum und beten
und wenden wieder sich und gehen.
4. Gesegnet seid ihr alten Leute,
Gesegnet sei du kleine Schar!
Wir bringen Gottes Segen heute
Dem braunen wie dem weißen Haar.
5. Zu guten Menschen, die sich lieben,
Schickt uns der Herr als Boten aus,
Und seid ihr treu und fromm geblieben,
Wir treten wieder in dies Haus
6. Kein Ohr hat ihren Spruch vernommen,
unsichtbar jedes Menschen Blick.
Sind sie gegangen , wie gekommen,
doch Gottes Segen bleibt zurück!
The lyrics to Freddy Quinn's song "Am Weihnachtsbaume Die Lichter Brennen" or "The Lights are Burning on the Christmas Tree" is an ode to the Christmas season and the feelings of hope, joy, and love that it brings. The song describes the sight of the lit-up tree, which is a beautiful and gentle reminder of the hope that is present during the holiday season. The song speaks of the children who stand before the tree with bright eyes and joyful hearts. It is a moment of pure bliss, and the old look towards the heavens, perhaps reflecting on the memories that the season brings.
Two angels enter the room unnoticed by anyone, but they go to the Christmas tree to pray. The song blesses both the old and the young, and the singer thanks those who have remained faithful and loving. The last verse speaks of the unseen blessing of God that remains even after the angels have gone. The song is a reminder that there is still light even in the darkest times.
