In 1952 he joins an international competition for the first time in Belfast, Ireland, where he wins the first prize.
However it takes till 1954 before he records his first songs, mainly songs about life at sea and some country music.
He soon extends his career by learning to act, and he will join several movies in Germany.
1956 sees Freddy representing Germany at the first Eurovision Song Contest together with Walter Andreas Schwarz. It is the only year that countries enter the contest with two songs. No points are given, and only the winner, Lys Assia is anounced.
Freddy's songs however become instant hits in Germany, Austria, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and Belgium and several other countries.
"La Paloma","Junge, komm bald wieder" and "Die Gitarre und das Meer" bring him fame, golden records and many awards.
Freddy keeps singing all his life, and in 2002 he makes his last tour, which ends in the city where he is born : Vienna.
Auf der Reeperbahn nachts um halb eins
Freddy Quinn Lyrics

braungebrannt wie zo'n Hottentott;

The song "Auf Der Reeperbahn Nachts Um Halb Eins" by Freddy Quinn is a classic German tune that tells the story of a man walking alone on the famous Reeperbahn street in Hamburg at night. He is looking for some fun and meets a blonde woman who he takes a liking to. He invites her to walk with him and promises to be faithful until the morning. They stroll along the Reeperbahn, a street famous for its nightlife and entertainment options, and the man encourages the woman to enjoy herself even though she may not have a date. The song highlights the excitement and freedom of the night and the adventures that can happen when you let loose and have fun.
The lyrics are filled with slang and expressions from the local area and the Reeperbahn in particular, contributing to the authenticity and relatability of the song. The use of the Hamburg dialect gives the song a unique character and helps transport listeners to the scene. The chorus is catchy and fun, encouraging listeners to join in and sing along. The song is both a celebration of nightlife and an expression of nostalgia for past adventures, inviting listeners to recall their own fond memories of reckless nights out.
Overall, "Auf Der Reeperbahn Nachts Um Halb Eins" is a classic song that captures the spirit of a wild night out in Hamburg. It encourages listeners to let loose and enjoy themselves and reminds them of the adventures that can be had when you embrace the freedom of the night.
