In 1952 he joins an international competition for the first time in Belfast, Ireland, where he wins the first prize.
However it takes till 1954 before he records his first songs, mainly songs about life at sea and some country music.
He soon extends his career by learning to act, and he will join several movies in Germany.
1956 sees Freddy representing Germany at the first Eurovision Song Contest together with Walter Andreas Schwarz. It is the only year that countries enter the contest with two songs. No points are given, and only the winner, Lys Assia is anounced.
Freddy's songs however become instant hits in Germany, Austria, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and Belgium and several other countries.
"La Paloma","Junge, komm bald wieder" and "Die Gitarre und das Meer" bring him fame, golden records and many awards.
Freddy keeps singing all his life, and in 2002 he makes his last tour, which ends in the city where he is born : Vienna.
So geht das jede nacht
Freddy Quinn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of the song depict the betrayal and infidelity of a lover who goes out with different men every night of the week, leaving the singer feeling heartbroken and shocked by the unexpected behavior. The singer describes how he thought he knew everything about his lover, but to his surprise, she is always out with a different man, from Jimmy on Sunday to an unknown man on Saturday. Despite his efforts to please her by giving her flowers, driving her to work, and taking her mother to the zoo, she still chooses to be with other men.
The repeated line "So geht das jede Nacht" (That's how it goes every night) emphasizes the cyclical nature of the cheating behavior and how it has become a routine for the singer's lover. He finishes the song by turning the tables and confessing that he has been going out with other women as well, which shocks the singer's lover who never expected him to do the same things she was doing.
Overall, the song portrays the pain and disillusionment that can come from trusting someone who turns out to be unfaithful, and the realization that even the closest relationships can be full of surprises and secrets.
