Weisst Du Wieviel Sternlein Stehen
Freddy Quinn Lyrics

An dem blauen Himmelszelt
Weißt du, wieviel Wolken gehen
Weit hin über alle Welt
Gott der Herr hat sie gezählet
Dass ihm auch nicht eines fehlet
An der ganzen großen Zahl
In der hellen Sonnenglut
Wieviel Fischlein auch sich kühlen
In der hellen Wasserflut
Gott der Herr rief sie mit Namen
Dass sie all ins Leben kamen
Dass sie nun so fröhlich sind
Weißt du, wie viel Kindlein frühe
Stehn aus ihrem Bettlein auf
Dass sie ohne Sorg und Mühe
Fröhlich sind im Tageslauf
Gott im Himmel hat an allen
Seine Lust sein Wohlgefallen
Kennt auch dich und hat dich lieb
The lyrics to Freddy Quinn's "Weisst Du Wieviel Sternlein Stehen" ask a series of rhetorical questions about the natural world, culminating in a statement about the loving awareness of God. The repeated question "Weißt du, wie viel" (translated as "Do you know how many" or "Do you know how much") sets up a sense of wonder and amazement at the sheer number of stars in the sky, the movement of clouds, and the abundance of life in the water and on land. The song then shifts to the idea of children waking up each morning without worry or trouble, suggesting a sense of innocence and freedom.
The repeated reference to God as "Gott der Herr" emphasizes a Christian perspective, but the song's focus on natural wonders and the idea of a loving higher power could resonate with a wider audience. The final line, "Er kennt auch dich und hat dich lieb" (translated as "He knows you and loves you"), reinforces the idea of a personal relationship with God and a sense of comfort and protection.
Some possible interpretations of the song could include a celebration of the natural world, an expression of faith and trust, or a reminder of the beauty and innocence of childhood. The song's sentimental melody and lyrics have made it a popular lullaby in German-speaking countries, and it has been covered by numerous artists over the years.
