Did the math based on time. The total distance is about 47ft but can't be accurately measured because he caught himself with his feet and slid for a lot of it. He was in freefall for 11ft before hitting the rock, then 11ft before hitting the ground though.

Free solo climbing mean climbing without a rope
Scrumbling is an activity that is a meeting point between trekking and mountainering and mostly is done without a rope.
Lastly climbing doesnt imply a minimum degree of difficulty, at least not in the uiaa scale where degree start from 1 that is literally defined as using hands for keeping balance. So this is Free solo climbing yes. A second or third grade in uiaa scale climbing

Yeah, I think high feet should be avoided in circumstances like this unless you have good balance and a lot of climbing experience. The trick to really high feet is leaning to the opposite side of the foot you're trying to go high with BEFORE you lift your foot. If you try to force the foot before the lean then the lean is unexpected and you'll probably fall because you haven't established yourself in the leaning position. Hope this helps someone get their feet super high 🥴

for the record, this is not what free climbing is. Free Soloing and Free Climbing are not the same thing (I wouldn't really consider this soloing either but that's beside the point). Not tryna be a know it all, just a common misconception to clear up.

"Free Soloing" is climbing vertical "class 5" routes withOUT any gear (rope or protection) where most people WOULD utilize ropes, a harness, protection and a partner for safety. Free Soloing means if you fall you die.. no room for error.

"Free climbing" (aka "freeing a route") is just climbing class 5 routes WITH protection but withOUT using anything artificial to climb on - without grabbing and pulling up on a rope or on protection that YOU brought with you.

This guy was on 4th class to low 5th class terrain withOUT any obvious skills or proper gear.

Did the math, but it can't be accurately measured because he slid and caught himself with his feet on the rocks before freefalling and landing on the one rock. He "fell" for around 1.5 seconds before hitting a rock which is like 36ft if he didn't slide (remove his height 6ft? to get 30ft), then he fell for another 0.83 seconds unimpeded making the total fall 41ft if you remove his body height and don't care about the sliding. He isn't really exaggerating that much and if you don't remove his body height it's about 47ft. HOWEVER, he caught himself with his feet several times before hitting the rock. He was still gaining momentum, but it wasn't a 41ft freefall. More like a slide and his freefall was about 22ft total which is still painful, but far less than 50ft

Was gonna say I'm seeing a lot of comments suggesting you dont need climbing shoes for this and I agree that's a bit overboard but used Vans are like the worst shoe you could pick. They have 0 grip and tend to be quite loose, should definitely have some hiking shoes with good grip on them if you're gonna try something like this

This is one of those "experienced" free climbers. I once had to stop a guy dressed like this from trying to free climb up a basically vertical cliff face because he thought he saw a "path" up to the top in northern Arizona. Some people underestimate rock climbing.
