Jesse James
Freedom Fry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Across the plains of yesterday,
Another name wont fade away
We'll go back on down the trail to Jesse James
Swinging doors to old saloons
Missing keys, gone out of tune,
We're following the dusty steps of Jesse James

Two brothers
Two brothers
Out to get you
And there's nothing you can do
In the end
The ford brothers
The ford brothers
Pulled the wool on you
Got the money they were due

In the end we're all just outlaws,
In the end we're all just outlaws - Jesse James

Along the streets where ghosts all roam
And tumbleweeds now call their home
We hear the spurs and smell the smoke of Jesse James
Dead enemies all play in dust
The memories begin to rust,
Heroes come from villains graves, Oh Jesse James,
Heroes come from villains graves, Oh Jesse James

Two brothers
Two brothers
Out to get you
And there's nothing you can do
In the end
The ford brothers
The ford brothers
Pulled the wool on you
Got the money they were due
In the end, we're all just outlaws

In the end, we're all just outlaws
Jesse James

Overall Meaning

Freedom Fry's song "Jesse James" is an ode to the infamous outlaw, Jesse James, who roamed the American West during the mid- to late-1800s. The lyrics are filled with references to the wild and dangerous lifestyle led by James, from the swinging doors of old saloons to the dusty steps he left behind. The song speaks of Jesse James as a hero, suggesting that even in death, he remains a haunting figure, playing on the minds of those who follow in his footsteps.

The chorus of the song speaks to the fact that in the end, we are all just outlaws like Jesse James. This can be interpreted in a few ways. Firstly, it may suggest that we are all capable of breaking the law and living outside the confines of society's rules. Secondly, it could convey the idea that we are all searching for a sense of freedom and adventure in our lives, just as Jesse James did.

Meanwhile, the lyrics about the Ford brothers allude to the fact that they were ultimately responsible for Jesse James' demise. The Ford brothers were hired to capture or kill Jesse James, and they successfully ambushed him in his home, shooting him in the back. The line "Pulled the wool on you, got the money they were due" suggests that the Ford brothers may have been motivated by money, rather than a sense of justice in their actions.

Overall, "Jesse James" is a stirring tribute to a figure who has become a legend in American folklore.
