@@Lishtenbird - Well maybe out of Sam's frustration, that's possible. But I don't think Lillard did anything really bad.
The point of collaborative storytelling isn't that the heroes always win. If you leave their fate up to chance, they might fail. I get that Sam didn't think that's what he was doing, that the game's controls being unreliable was a nasty surprise.
But unless Sam's going to say that events in-game happen differently from the trouble players are having at the table, the party is obviously in trouble. TPKs happen, or the party gets captured if they lose or whatever. As others pointed out, there are ways to spin the narrative, like that their failure is why the Internet is full of trolls and bad actors now; buy NordVPN.
Matt Lillard is just playing out what his character would do. And I don't think it's a case of "my guy" syndrome; it's not unreasonable for him to expect that the party is losing.
And once Sam did accept that they weren't beating the game and he'd have to make something up, Lillard went along with Sam suggesting that maybe his character had a change of heart. Once he saw what Sam needed / wanted to wrap the episode up, he collaborated. (He at least made a show of only doing so reluctantly, but it still happened.)
Even if Lillard hadn't been as vocal about wanting to start banishing players and stuff like that, I don't think it would have been much easier to paper over the snake game being a total roadblock to success.
I think Lillard made it funnier for the audience. (Although yes, I can see that Sam would feel even more pressure because of it.)

You gotta respect a company that says "you made a joke ad about our company, then made it into a recurring one? Hey, make it a one shot because that will be cool!"
@louiesosa4668
For serious. This is so enjoyable.
@matthewevans5486
Was this NordVPN idea or was this a Regal idea?
@Caitydid561
@@matthewevans5486 Both, I think? It was something I know Critters have been asking for for a while. And NordVPN obviously okayed it, since they're sponsoring the one shot.
Also, his name's spelled Riegel, btw.
