Exactly! When my husband of 16 years just abruptly announced he was leaving me for someone else ( after I greeted him with “There is the love of my life” I truly felt the ground fall away from me.
He was leaving to go on a month long vacation with her. Leaving me to try to figure out how to support our 13yo daughter and I when I had worked in 21 years. Another way my world imploded. Welfare wouldn’t even award me more than medical for my daughter because I couldn’t prove he was out of the house!
I even took a job doing phone sex because no one would hire me. All while he was “seeing the country” with her.
Finally I get a job and I’m r*ped 10 months into the job. Yes it was at work. But I had seen what happened to a girl who was sexually harassed by the supervisor so I repressed it. And acted like it never happened because I needed the job to support my daughter.
And a couple years back I heard this song and I sobbed for what felt like an eternity. The line “I’ve been strong for so long, I never thought how much I needed you” just…
I’m better now. Still work for the same company but at a different site. And my daughter is older and lives on her own. (And is oblivious to the rape thankfully).
