Friar Alessandro Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pater Noster,
Qui es in caelis
Sanctificétur nomen tuum,
Advéniat regnum tuum,
Fiat voluntas tua,
Sicut in caelo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidiánum
Da nobis hódie,
Et dimítte nobis
Débita nostra,
Sicut et nos dimíttimus
Debitóribus nostris.
Et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem.
Sed líbera nos a Malo.
Pater Noster
Pater Noster
Pater Noster

Pater Noster
Amen.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Friar Alessandro's song "Pater Noster" are a prayer commonly known as "The Lord's Prayer" or the "Our Father" prayer, that is recited in Christian religions. The song begins with "Pater Noster, Qui es in caelis" which roughly translates to "Our Father who art in heaven." The song then goes on to ask for the Lord's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven and to provide us with our daily bread. The line "Et ne nos inducas in tentationem" asks the Lord to not lead us into temptation, and "Sed libera nos a malo" asks for deliverance from evil.

I have been blessed to meet Friar Alessandro yesterday at OFM headquarters here in Roma, Italia.  He is a very kind man & as you see on that video...that is him in real life!  He loves God!  He also is very humble...from my understanding, he was a professional opera singer, but gave up that life to be with the Friars. When I met him, I felt the love he has for God and others...reminds me of St. Francis of Assisi..who, from my understanding, also love to sing.
