My origin unknown
Just want you to know
I'm more than I show
Let's get this straight now before it's too late
My value is here
It is inside of me
I want your respect
And there are limits to what I accept
Stranger
What do you read in my heart
Let's get it right from the start
I'm a troublemaker
I'll blow your fuse if you want me to
Stranger
What do you read in my heart
Let's get it right from the start
I am dynamite with a feisty mind
That's what you'll find
It's good to be kind
I tell you I try
But I'd rather be true
And honest to you
The price you pay
If you do it my way
The song Strangers by Frida from ABBA is an emotional tale of a relationship that seems to have lost its way. The song speaks about a couple that has grown distant from each other, but one partner wants to make it work while the other seems to have given up on the relationship. The opening lines, "If you ever had the time, you would try to make it fine", suggest that the singer is willing to take the time to fix the relationship if the other partner shows dedication. However, they doubt the sincerity of their partner's promises.
The lyrics suggest that the couple may have been happy at one point, but now their relationship has gone sour, and they don't know how to fix it. The line, "Like a fairytale gone bad", paints a picture of how their relationship has deteriorated into something unrecognizable. The singer expresses their confusion over the situation, "And I don't know what to say, but I can't keep playing games." They seem to have given up on playing the waiting game and instead want to either resolve the issue or move on.
By the end of the song, the singer is grappling with the decision of whether to stay with their partner or to leave. They reflect on whether their partner feels the same way and wonder if they are equally to blame for the problems. The lyrics are a heartfelt account of the struggle to hold onto love and the fear of walking away from something that once meant so much.

If you ever had the time
If you truly cared enough to make the time for me
You would try to make it fine
You would make an effort to fix our problems and make things better
If your promises were real
If you kept your word and followed through on your commitments
Then maybe love is what I'd feel
Maybe I could actually believe in your love for me
But you seem to be so sad
You appear to be emotionally troubled or unhappy
Like a fairytale gone bad
Our relationship seems to be falling apart like a storybook romance turned tragic
And I don't know what to say
I am at a loss for words or solutions to our problems
But I can't keep playing games
I refuse to continue participating in any deceit or manipulation in our relationship
I can't stay now, I can't stay now
I am unable to stay in this situation any longer, physically or emotionally
Or walk away, or turn away
I cannot allow myself to simply walk away or ignore the situation
So I stayed alone tonight
I chose to be alone rather than continuing to struggle with our relationship
Hoping things might turn out right
I still hold onto the hope that our problems can be resolved and our relationship can be salvaged
Wonder if you feel the same
I am curious if you share the same feelings about our relationship
Maybe I'm as much to blame
Perhaps I am partially responsible for the issues in our relationship
As the candle burns away
Time passes and situations change, as indicated by the dwindling candle flame
I want you another day
Despite our problems, I still want to be with you and hope for a better future
Reading letters that you've sent
I am revisiting past communication in an attempt to understand our relationship better
Well is it consciences you meant
Are you trying to make me feel guilty or manipulate my emotions?
If I stay with you tonight
If I choose to continue our relationship despite its issues
Though I know It won't be right
Even though I am aware that our relationship is not healthy or sustainable
If I turn the other way
If I choose to ignore the problems and continue as if everything is fine
There'll be nothing else to say
This situation will continue to deteriorate, and no solutions or changes will be made
I can't stay now...
I cannot continue our relationship as it currently is
