Ånnevik grew up in Ridabu, near Hamar, and was involved in music and theatre during her formative years. In the spring of 2009 she produced a demo with her own songs, and sent it to Grappa Music. This resulted in her receiving the fourth “New Artist Prize” from Grappa Music, following in the footsteps of Siri Nilsen, Gjermund Larsen and Valkyrien Allstars. The jury gave the following ground for awarding the prize to Ånnevik. Ånnevik’s first record, Synlige hjerteslag, was formed together with producer Andreas Mjøs (Jaga Jazzist, Adjagas, Susanna and the Magical Orchestra). It was voted the best Norwegian-language album of the year by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation’s programme “Norsk på Norsk” on the radio station P1, and was featured on lists of the year’s best albums by the TV show “Lydverket” and the newspaper Vårt Land, among others. She presented a very successful concert at the By:Larm festival in 2011, and was the opening act for the artist Odd Nordstoga in several of Norway’s largest cities. Her singles “Strået” and “Snubletråd” were in heavy rotation on the P1 radio programme in 2011. Ånnevik was nominated for a Spellemannspris, the Norwegian Grammy, both as newcomer of the year and in the folk category. She was also the first winner of the “Lyspunkt” award, which was newly established by the Norwegian Lyricist Fund for a first album, and received the Vidar Sandbeck Cultural Award, “Regnbågåbrua”.
In 2012 she received glowing reviews for a joint concert tour throughout south-eastern Norway together with the group Narum, among others, called “Trassviser og Tordenskrell”, a sort of Norwegian dialect version of the Rolling Thunder Revue of the 1970s. Later that year she participated in a project based on the works of poet Hans Børli together with the band “In the Country”, the duet “Akurat hær, akurat nå” together with the artist Ravi, and the song “Revevise” on a tribute album to Thorbjørn Egner, Vi har den ære. She collaborated with Andreas Mjøs on the song “Magefølelsen” for the documentary Beretninger om begynnelser, which was aired on TV2 in the spring of 2012.
Frida Ånnevik’s second album, "Ville Ord", was released in September 2013.

Hvor lang tid skal du legge lokk
På hvem du er, og når du skal
Komme ut av bobla
Som består av zalo og vann,
En illusjon som kan
Imponere om man
Ikke trur at sånt går an.
Lillebror, ikke gå i mine spor,
Lillebror, når du blir stor.
Lillebror, ikke gå i mine spor,
La ville ord sitte i,
Går over i ei anna tid.
Lillebror, ikke gå i mine spor,
Lillebror, når du blir stor.
Lillebror, ikke gå i mine spor,
La ville ord sitte i.
Det er slikt du må spare på,
Som du kjenner det,
Slik du kjenner det nå.
Når du tar nedslag og står,
Når du runner livet med ny high-score.
Jeg trur det skjer i år.
Lillebror, ikke gå i mine spor,
Lillebror, når du blir stor.
Lillebror, ikke gå i mine spor,
La ville ord sitte i,
Spark fra og gli forbi
Menneskelig mørketid.
The lyrics of Frida Ånnevik's song Lillebror explore the themes of identity, self-discovery, and the struggle to break free from societal expectations. In the first verse, she asks how long one must hide their true self and when they will come out of the bubble of illusion that surrounds them. This illusion, created by everyday routines, can impress others who do not believe that it is possible to have an alternative way of living.
The chorus is directed towards her younger brother, encouraging him to find his own path and not to follow her footsteps. She urges him to let wild words sit in and to break away from the darkness of humanity's struggles. In the second verse, she questions whether a year of silence is really peaceful, or can a minute of silence be so deafening that it lasts forever. She states that black and white perspectives are useful in times of conflict where one gets stabbed and hurt, but finally reaches a new phase in their life.
The final verse offers words of consolation, where Frida expresses that the listener should save their true identity, feelings, and experiences. She encourages them to hold on to their true self as it will help them navigate through life's ups and downs. She believes that the listener will make a breakthrough in life soon.
