I'd Love You to Want Me

When I saw you standing there
I about fell out my chair
And when you moved your mouth to speak
I felt the blood go to my feet
Now it took time for me to know
Now something in my soul just cries
I see the want in your blue eyes
CHORUS
Baby, I'd love you to want me
The way that I want you
The way that it should be
Baby, you'd love me to want you
The way that I want to
If you'd only let it be
You told yourself years ago
You'd never let your feelings show
The obligation that you made
For the title that they gave
CHORUS
Now it took time for me to know
CHORUS x 2
The song "I'd Love You to Want Me" by Friends is an ode to unrequited love. The singer in the song opens with imagery of being taken by surprise when they saw the person they loved standing in front of them. They were so overwhelmed by their presence that they almost fell out of their chair. The singer then goes on to describe the intense physical reaction they had when the person began to speak. These lines highlight the physical intensity of attraction and love.
The next stanza of the song shifts to a more reflective tone. The singer references how it took some time to know the other person's true feelings. They describe how there was something in their soul that cried out when they saw the want in the other person's blue eyes. This line suggests that the singer was attuned to the other person's emotional state and that they could see what the other person was not willing to show.
The chorus of the song is a repetition of lines that express the singer's desire for the other person to want them back. They long for a mutual love, for the way things "should be". The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the singer's longing and unfulfilled desire.
Overall, "I'd Love You to Want Me" is a song that speaks to the universal theme of unrequited love. The lyrics are straightforward, but it is the way that they are sung and the emotions that they evoke that make the song so effective.

When I saw you standing there
The moment I laid eyes on you
I about fell out my chair
I was completely taken aback
And when you moved your mouth to speak
Even your speech astounded me
I felt the blood go to my feet
You had my heart racing
Now it took time for me to know
It wasn't an immediate realization
What you tried so not to show
But you hid it well
Now something in my soul just cries
But something deep inside me feels yearning
I see the want in your blue eyes
I know you feel the same way
Baby, I'd love you to want me
I wish you wanted me as much as I want you
The way that I want you
It's a desire that consumes me
The way that it should be
It's how things are meant to be
Baby, you'd love me to want you
I know you want me too
The way that I want to
As much as I long for you
If you'd only let it be
We can have what we both desire
You told yourself years ago
But you made a promise to yourself
You'd never let your feelings show
To never show any vulnerability
The obligation that you made
Because of some commitment you pledged
For the title that they gave
For something that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things
CHORUS
Reiterating the longing they both have for each other
