Humans need comfort, positivity and a good amount of laughter everyday, To get them through the day they need all of this. Life is Unpredictable and it can have a good or bad ending, So people just prefer to feel good as much as they can throughout thier lives...

The good one: The warm sense of feeling loved, safe, good, happy, positive and the relief that life will be alright when you cope yourself with enough things that make you happy, Cuz they all are super good looking, falling in love and doing sweet things

The Bad impact: Oh Boy, This can be a party pooper, The show is not exactly realistic, It gives us a false sense of closure, increases our expectations in the group of friends we need to have and also the people we date and fall in love with...Sure there are a few realistic elements and storylines ...But overall the setup itself is very "Hollywood" and Fairy tale like..The fact that 6 really good looking people often just get horny and develop feelings with each other and they all turn out to get a happy ending is just too unrealistic and unrelatable. Real life is very unpredictable and it has consequences for our actions and previous fuck ups we did in our lives

I get it..it was just meant to be a sitcom..I'm talking about the ones who just are delusional and thinking that real life must be like FRIENDS the TV show or it isn't a good life. Even Adult-teenagers in certain countries are more mature and understanding. This show can give people high hopes which might not have ever been the intention of the writers
, But there are fans who take this show as an ideal life achievement, Sorry to break it to you but that can be unhealthy and ignorant.

@alexandra Yep. Whereas Rachel was growing career-wise significantly, personality-wise she was stumbling on numerous occasions and unnecessarily. Especially on the part of this on- and off-relationship with Ross. Making her more selfish than the need to be. Often overshadowing her achievements because of the writers wanting to prolong this 'we were on a break' drama.

After college my friends and I moved in together and rented a big house it was a great time in my life because we were all transitioning from one stage of life into another with each other and helped each other cope with the responsibilities of adulthood this was back in 2001, now I see kids in my office entering the work place still living st home not having that communal experience I had at their age and thus having a tougher time adjusting to their new phase in life

I read in a recent article by one of the creators that they think the show is still popular because it's comfort food. And I get that. When I was stuck in the hospital for weeks and about to lose my mind I stumbled across a Friends episode and calmed down immediately. It was incredibly well written and acted and truly a national treasure! World treasure, actually, because it belongs to everyone and the experiences the characters go through is universal.

@MrHootiedean It is always a pleasure to watch these six characters on-screen. The first couple of episodes really hit the nail on its head in terms of wanting a great introduction for your show. I remember TOW All the Poker and that was magnificent. Especially watching Ross giving Rachel the win in the poker hand they were dealing with all the money that went along with it.

Friends calms my anxiety. It gives me comfort. I don’t sit there thinking about the jokes or story lines or what the writers are trying to say. Heck I don’t even need to actively watch the show It still gives me that feeling. I like ever single one of the characters, every season and every episode. Its not about the story its just a feeling.

I think the thing that is so universally appealing about the show is that it shows the beauty of friendship. In real life it can be really hard to have a friend group that is that close-knit for a whole decade. In friends, the friend group is basically a family. When you're feeling incredibly lonely, there's a sense of escapism and fantasy to it.

Friends is like instant laughter and happiness.
My best friend is neurosurgeon.
He's 32 and leads an incredibly hectic life, recently diagnosed with hypertension :(
[wife is freaking out about that.]

But whenever he watches a Friends episode, he calls & tells me about the scene that made him chuckle, then we share a laugh.
He tells me how he misses us being roommates :)
It's just uplifting and reminds all my friends of good old times.

I'm 41 so I was around for the start of the show till its end. It's always been one of my fav shows. This year for Christmas my two besties bought my the entire dvd series & when I opened it up in video chat I cried so much. Considering the year we've all had this was possibly the sweetest gift I could've ever gotten.

Aside from the absence of cell phone culture, pretty much every aspect of life in Friends is fully relevant today. It doesn't feel old. Give it another 20 years, though--then it will start looking like 'I Love Lucy.'

This was such a beautiful way to discuss everything I love about this show. Unfortunately, economics has a lot to do with the postponement of career and marriage and, of course, children. The one thing Friends got all the way wrong is that, given their respective career choices, there is no way they could've afforded the lifestyle they live.

There is no longer much in the way of job security in the private sector, wages are continuing to erode, and the cost of housing and education are beyond the means of a good portion of the population.

Still, it's a great show, written by a staff of great writers, coupled with a great cast. Magic.

Yeah, there's no way they're living at the center of NY without a stable job, even with roommates life is too expensive, also, I think people are less into marriage because people are way more free now, most of my aunts were married by 21 because they didn't have careers nor the means to survive on their own, plus, they lived in a tiny town where everyone knew each other so having multiple sexual relationships would be frowned upon, so everyone was married young, had children and grew old together, that was the goal, now people long for more than that, they want to travel, have success in their careers, they want freedom and for most marriage is the end of that, specially children.

Yes and no. The show tried to fill those loopholes by saying that Monica's apartment was inherited (if I remember right. Maybe I'm tripping about this) and Chandler made good money so he could pay for his. Ross was a prof so he could prob pay for his apartment across the street too considering he was single and didn't have expensive habits. Maybe a reach but believeable

@coda creator Wrong. It was definitely believable. There is a reason that Chandler was given the position of a high-paying career job since the very beginning. He could afford his apartment as a consequence very easily. Focusing on the apartment of Monica it is believable too. Because, her grandmother was the original owner decades ago when the rents were much, much lower and were remaining that way under the rules of "Rent Control" so it could remain affordable. Treeger, the local maintenance guy, knew that Monica's grandmother wasn't living there anymore but remaining quiet because he liked Monica and the group that was living in the building. With the addition of Rachel and her job at Bloomingdale's and subsequently Ralph Lauren also did the job of covering the expenses for Monica's apartment.

Also, if it isn't this what some people are complaining about, they still whine about the lack of diversity in the show which is non-existent by the way. Yes, all the six main characters happen to have a light skin color. However, a large number of the show's secondary and tertiary characters were of a different background including Asian (Julie), Latino (Paolo) and Sub-Saharan African (Charlie) etc. Overall, the show did a terrific job of trying to let Friends not be about "identity politics" but about the content of your character instead.

i think my main issue with friends is that they are all in that coffee shop not working midday when they all had 9-5 jobs except for Joey and he was somehow more responsible about that than the actual responsible characters. It cant always be saturday is what i'm trying to say.

@@Kris-wo4pj It was just one episode though where Joey's character made fun of the group still drinking coffee in the cafe while it was 11 am. The rest is pretty normal since each character had a different job and occupation it explains the many scenes that we didn't see them all together sitting in the cafe. Some get earlier out of work and others later. Some might have even taken off work earlier as well.

Not a huge fan of friends, but I do like the nostalgia of it having grown up in the 90's. Reminds me of a simpler and more comforting time, and in my opinion highlights the stark difference between a more carefree, optimistic 90's and the more turbulent bleakness of the later decades. Its one of those shows I never really 'watch' but rather put it on for some background noise...

Great video! It was much easier back when you were told what to do. Get a stable job, find a nice woman, get married and have kids. Done, life's targets have been achieved and you are ready to die in peace. It does not matter if you feel miserable for 30+ years, you don't want to be the one different right? Your parents, the church, every respectable member of the society, they cannot be all wrong. The ones who dared to challenge - gays, hippies, unmarried aunts and uncles, look at them, they are all losers and lost and lonely.

The game has changed and the medicine was exposed as placebo. No one can show us the way because no one knows better in this huge and weird new world. We hold the key that unlocks a million chests yet we can only open one at a time. And we only have time to open a handful. We peek inside and wonder if it that is a good choice. We feel anxious, drop it and open another one. And then another. And twenty years have passed. And then thirty. And then forty...

We throw that cursed key away and only then we feel calm and peaceful and ready. And then we leave.

No I'm not serious, chill out and enjoy the trip.

i really into Friends after i graduated from university. We all went back to our hometown and being alone without friends that i used to know, break up and looking for a better job, Friends enlighten my days and filled up my emptiness during night. Now, after 10 years still watching Friends and break up didn't hurt that much. Still watching before sleeping so I don't feel like i'm alone and for better mood in the morning before leaving for work. Thanks Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Rachel.

This show is a stress buster. In countries like India Hollywood shows and movies are becoming more and more popular these days. Most of the people in India have never watched Friends when it released or I can say not even until 2009. Now it has been trending on Netflix in 2020 since 12 months in top 10 everyday with the reruns. That's how much people are loving.

I love friends because it makes me feel comfortable and happy, like if it was my happy place. I don't know if it is that the main settings are the comfy coffee house, or Monica's or even Joey's. Everytime I watch it, especially the very first seasons, i just feel so comfortable and joyful. As well, the writing is something so many can relate too especially younger generation as time changes. I am a proud 95' baby and have been watching the show since I am 16 and I relate to it so much now in my mid 20's.

In this world, it seems like you have to have everything figured out, achieved by like 25-28, otherwise, you are not successful. But the reality is, even if you try really hard, it may not be the case, it can take longer. Friends, humour, family, small happy moments is what sometimes keeps on your journey

The thing is, friends just stands out soo much, I watched it as a young kid and loved it I've seen every episode many times over, but as I grew older what stood out to me is no matter how many good sitcoms I watched, I realised how much friends stood out from the crowd, its such an impressive sitcom in every way... The characters were perfect, the jokes, the storyline... Literally everything about it, it just radiates nostalgia and I feel sad for anyone who doesn't appreciate it for what it is/was.... I've never felt upset about the end of a series before, except friends, it felt like a part of my life had come to an end and something apart of me had died... It might sound morbid and weird to anyone who doesn't understand but I think its such a shame that people can only enjoy this incredible sitcom through re runs and will never fully appreciate what effect it had to the die hard viewers/fans

The magic of friends is at least for the early 2000 kids is that we all wish to gather around like this but now it’s not a gathering of people physically who live close to each other or are really close now it’s done cross borders it’s the idea that we have this idea of family that we all practically live under the same umbrella it also doesn’t just give you what you want and show you what you fantasize about it also shows you that struggling is part of life it can takes 10 years or more a long time to achieve a goal or a dream and it may not even be what your expecting or the way you wanted it to be example Ross going steady with a girl he loves but in the end it was that the girl who had an on off relationship , chandler didn’t want to be alone but rejected commitment the idea that he wanted to be remembered and have a perfect girl someone who he sees as attractive but doesn’t have any flaws but in the end he hooks up with Monica someone who has numerous flaws and is high maintenance and he saw not attractive when he first met her ,Joey want to inspire to be this famous rich actor but in the end he likes the community of friends he has and realizes that it’s not about the sex and money but in reality but sticking with your closest connections,
Monica someone who wanted to be a seen as someone who was the perfect example of success eventually ends up realizing though she has flaws she has people who care enough to love her despite them and realizes that it’s a two way street ,phoebe a spirit of child like joy and realism wants just to make people happy and to develop a family but in the end she later realizes thing aren’t so black and white and that things change she hated the idea of being the stereotypical girl she wanted to be eccentric and unique but in the end she falls in love with mike and gets married and becomes this common lady she learns that common and ordinary doesn’t necessarily strip her of the roller coaster life sets up and Rachel was career driven wanted to prove that she wasn’t this spoiled girl that things fell in her lap she wanted something that she did by herself but in the end she goes back to Ross and gives her self a reward she learns that even though it may be hard to overcome a career for love it was what made her happy but she made her decision by herself they all in the end got something they wanted but not exactly how they expected or thought it should go but the idea of dreams be obtainable but not by choice but by experience and just simply living

Sure it gets a little wacky and insane at times but at the core Friends is a show about the confusing mid-20s to early 30s part of your time. Everyone is in different places in life, we start striking out on our own while relying on the friends you have. It'll always be relatable

I’ve seen that person talk before and he just spouts over generalizations and stereotypes about a group of people i.e. a generation which is made up of millions of people from around the world and every single culture and country. And he was yet another person to completely Misunderstand the words special which just means unique. Popular belief says the word special means when a person is put on a pedestal. On a genetic level everyone literally is special because nature doesn’t make copies.

It's your title though, so do whatever you like. I would suggest "Why Friends is so appealing" or "The Appeal of Friends", but those are just some quick ideas, haven't put much thought into it.

I will admit, I have never watched friends. Never. I knew it existed, I knew the promo song and that it had 10 seasons. Also I knew some of the cast that played in that Tv Show because I watched other movies, tv shows with them in it but that's about how much I knew of the show itself. Absolutely nothing. Today I bought a used copy of all 10 seasons for 15 Euro and will binge watch the show for the first time.

The moment the producers of Friends were forcing Ross to marry Emily on the most basic of flawed reasons during the bridging of season four and five necked the show and its potential. It was really unnecessary to force Rachel and Ross to part ways again here, instead of living up to the momentum of their relationship in the show's first four seasons.

Vindawg I agree that the show peaked in season 4. But my theory is it’s because it’s the last season where all the characters are single. As much as I like Chandler and Monica as a couple, it changed some of the dynamics of the group. I really enjoy Rachel and Monica being roommates living across the hall from Joey and Chandler.
