Your heart is dear
But you have to let him go
He'll drag you down
Like a lead balloon
He's messing up your show
And I can see the sadness in your eyes
No surprise you feel this way
I can can see the sadness in your eyes
It's no surprise you feel this way
No surprise you feel this way
Laurie sweet
Your heart is pure
But your life is rolling by
He'll drag you down
Spin you round
You have to let it die
And I can see the sadness in your eyes
It's no surprise you feel this way
No surprise you feel this way
I can can see the sadness in your eyes
It's no surprise you feel this way
No surprise you feel this way
I can see the sadness in your eyes
As your down again tonight
Laurie sweet, your heart is pure
But you have to let him go
He'll drag you down
Take your crown
He's messing up your show girl
The lyrics of Friends of Emmet's song No Surprise tell the story of a woman named Laurie who is in a toxic relationship with a man who is dragging her down and messing up her life. The singer, who is most likely a close friend of Laurie, is concerned about her well-being and is urging her to let go of this man. The singer acknowledges the sadness in Laurie's eyes and how it's no surprise that she feels this way.
The chorus, which repeats several times throughout the song, emphasizes that the sadness in Laurie's eyes is no surprise, indicating that perhaps Laurie has been struggling with this relationship for a while. The repetition of "no surprise you feel this way" highlights how inevitable the situation seems and how Laurie's friends have been aware of her struggle.
The second verse emphasizes Laurie's pure heart, but how her life is passing her by because of this man. The singer urges her to let it die and move on from this relationship, warning that he's messing up her show. In the final lines of the song, the singer reassures Laurie that her heart is pure and that she deserves to let go of this man who is taking her crown.
Overall, the lyrics of No Surprise tell a relatable story of a woman who is struggling to leave a toxic relationship, but her friends are there to support her and urge her to make a change for the better.
