Architect
Frightened Rabbit ft. Manchester Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't waste your time on me
I'm just an architect
I have built nothing
Please take my arms in assistance
If I offer them
I can solve that sting
Your life held in low regard
Beneath low ceilings
They are designed by fate
Tonight we can tear the roof
From this existence
I tear it all away

You told all of your friends
You told all of your friends
You told all of your friends
And no one came
No one came

You claimed my device
Is an arsonist
Just burn in time
You say it won't show light
Just a darkening
Waste of time
You shaved bits of spine
From a novelist
To help you write
You stayed and there's nothing here
But a masochist
And a broken mind

You told all of your friends
You told all of your friends
You told all of your friends
And no one came
No one came
They didn't want to
No one came
They didn't have to
Oh, no one came
They didn't need to
No one came
They didn't want to
No one came

No one came

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Frightened Rabbit ft. Manchester Orchestra's song Architect suggest a sense of self-deprecation and insignificance. The singer humbly declares that they are simply an architect and that they have built nothing, implying that they have not accomplished anything significant in their life. However, in spite of this admission, they are offering their arms to assist someone in need, stating that they can "solve that sting".

The second verse sees the singer being criticized by someone who claims that their work is meaningless, with their "device" being described as an "arsonist". The critic suggests that their work "won't show light" and is just a "darkening waste of time". This negative critique seems to have affected the singer deeply, with them condemning themselves as a "masochist" and having a "broken mind".

The chorus, "You told all of your friends and no one came," hints at a feeling of rejection and a lack of validation from others. It suggests that the singer had high hopes for something, but no one showed up to support them. The repetition of this line, along with the variations in the last few lines, emphasizes the feeling of loneliness and disappointment.

Overall, the song seems to be a commentary on the struggle to find purpose and meaning in one's own life, and the pain of feeling unappreciated and unnoticed by others.

Maybe sometimes you have to accept that such good music only comes from broken souls. Rip Scott.

@pythonprogrammer7354

He suffered from anxiety, depression and alcohol addiction. He was under tremendous pressure from agents, management and the record label. His soul wasn't broken. Cause he had a very loving soul if you knew anything about him. He needed help , and did not get it. He was a beautiful human being for your info.

@JM1988

@@pythonprogrammer7354 so … I guess you knew him personally?

Andy played a snippet of this song at a Manchester show I went to and it just about floored me. These two changed my life, and clearly many other people's as well. I hope Scott's found peace wherever he's at.

Two of the most iconic voices of our generation. I will never get bored of this song!
