Debut Album
Line-up:
Mario Hernandez: vocals and instrumentals
The debut record, Me and Amy and the Two French Boys, was gloriously accepted as the shimmering and melodic pop illumination that it was. Combining loves for American pop with Japanese kitsch, Bowie and the Beatles with Pink Lady, From Bubblegum to Sky released an album full of "serene sonic textures" and a "sparkling, distinctive pop aesthetic."
Second Album
Line-up:
Mario Hernandez: vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards, drums, maracas
Jamie McCormick: backing vocals, bass, electric guitar, guitar, organ, piano, twelve-string guitar
Ben Brunn: backing vocals, bass
Nothing Sadder Than Lonely Queen builds upon the groundwork laid down by the debut album. Whether it's the soulfully refreshing nature of The Gurls & Shoo Be Doo Wop or the New Wave textures.
Third Album
Line-up:
Frank Jordan: bass and vocals
Bill Evans: keyboards and vocals
Mario Hernandez: vocals and guitar
Steve LeFollotte: keyboards and bass
On the third album the project takes more of a DIY free-form. Mario says, “ This record is much more inspired — less obvious indie pop, more organic and drunk. Almost cathartic where the songs flow out naturally. I just write songs whatever that means. It’s an outlet and easily my favorite record. I needed to prove to myself that I can do everything without having to plan to do everything. This was the least stressful, easiest recording process. I was pulling from the interpretations of the players on some things while adding structure where I thought structure needed to be. The songs edited themselves.”
The phrase A Soft Kill brings to mind the concept of the vices people use to kill themselves slowly. Not a murder, but a soft kill.
Not long before finishing the third album, Mario moved to NYC, and this was later proved to recharge his interest in music. Also this helped to perform live easier.
My On-Call Nurse
From Bubblegum To Sky Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The song "My On-Call Nurse" by From Bubblegum To Sky tells a story of a sick person who relies heavily on their on-call nurse for comfort and support during their illness. The phrase "on-call nurse" typically refers to a medical professional who is available to answer any questions or concerns a patient may have after-hours or outside of regular appointments. However, in this song, the on-call nurse is presented as a metaphor for a loved one or close friend who provides emotional support to the singer during their illness.
The lyrics of the song are full of vivid imagery and playful metaphors. For example, in the chorus, the singer compares their on-call nurse to a "lifesaver" and a "thimble". The lifesaver represents the comfort and safety that the nurse brings, while the thimble represents their small and delicate nature. The lyrics also describe the singer's physical symptoms, such as feeling "weak like a kitten" and "breathless like a sigh".
