E
Front 242 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They come to track down the sobbing
They come to sully the sorrow
To see the bloody insides
To eat their fear of despair

They come to track down the sobbing
To pulverize the most intimate pains
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines

Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles
Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles

Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles
Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles

Deeply caught in their conceit
They gather to check their luck
The vultures sweeping down upon the street
To eat their fear of despair

Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines

Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles
Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles

Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles
Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles

Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines
Let's feed the felines

Bury your head in the sand
Or go 'round in circles
(Let's feed the felines)
Bury your head in the sand

Or go 'round in circles
(Let's feed the felines)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Front 242's "E" describe a scene where people come to take advantage of others' pain and despair. The first two verses describe these people as "sullying the sorrow" and coming to "eat their fear of despair." They are described as being "deeply caught in their conceit" and acting like vultures, "sweeping down upon the street." The repeated chorus of "Let's feed the felines" serves as a metaphor for these people being like scavengers who are taking advantage of the vulnerable.

The last lines of the song offer a choice: either bury your head in the sand and ignore these vultures, or go "round in circles" trying to fight them. The repeated chorus of "Let's feed the felines" throughout the song makes it clear that the singer believes these vultures will always be around to prey on the vulnerable and marginalized.

Overall, "E" is a powerful commentary on the ways in which people can be cruel and predatory towards those who are suffering. The metaphor of the felines is a particularly striking one, as it highlights the predatory nature of these people and makes it clear that they are not acting out of empathy or compassion.

I have been following Front 242 since the '80's. Best electronic band ever! They set the stage for every EBM hard-core group since. Great stage show, best musical concepts, best and most interesting lyrics...but who cares about lyrics when the beats are the focus. No tricky or distracting stage shows: just the band and their music!!! Front 242 has always been the fore-runners of EBM music since their inception: the best of the best.

Totally Agree. I love them since 1990 and saw them more than 40 times since then. Another Band i prefer for their Shows is Skinny Puppy, even the distracting Stageperformance is main part of the concept.

I'm 18 and I found out Front 242 only a few months ago and it's already one of my favorite bands. I was really lucky to visit their concert in Berlin this year, liked it very much. Almost everyone there was over 30 years old and some are even 40-60. Not many young people. So cool that you listen such good music in your 70s!!
