Tiring of the pop world, Godfrey chose to return to his first love, prog rock, which he had grown up with and played in his first band, Freefall. Working for six months alone in his studio, he crafted the basis of an album, then approached guitarist John Mitchell of the band Kino to ask if he would play on it. Mitchell agreed, and introduced Godfrey to bassist John Jowitt and drummer Andy Edwards of the band IQ, who, along with Godfrey's former Freefall bandmate, guitarist John Boyes, would round out the lineup. The band signed to German prog powerhouse InsideOut and released their debut album, Milliontown, in 2006, after which they embarked on a brief tour before splitting due to Godfrey's increasing workload. Mitchell then joined the recently reactivated It Bites.

Godfrey reconvened Frost* the following year, however, and began work on a second album. Experiments in Mass Appeal was released in 2008, with Declan Burke of Darwin's Radio replacing Boyes. The band toured again, with several lineup changes along the way. Edwards left in 2008, was replaced by Nick D'Virgilio of Spock's Beard for the 2009 tour, and eventually by Steven Wilson's drummer Craig Blundell; Jowitt left in 2009 to be replaced by Level 42 bassist Nathan King. In April 2011, the band once again dissolved, but was revived just five months later when Godfrey announced he was working on another album. That album took five long years to materialize. To tide fans over, a live-in-the-studio DVD, The Rockfield Files, was released in 2013. Frost*'s third album, entitled Falling Satellites, was scheduled for release in May 2016. It found Godfrey co-writing with Mitchell for the first time, and featured a guest appearance by guitar god Joe Satriani.

On the 15th of May 2019, it was announced that the drummer Craig Blundell was to leave the band citing scheduling conflicts.

Overall Meaning

Hi, thanks for the comment. I used the EyeToy camera (the old manual focus camera from the PS2 days which is strangely much better than the newer higher-res PS3 camera) to create photo stickers in the game. It's a bit tricky to get them lined-up properly but with practice you can get some pretty good results.

@legogo100 Hi, Thanks for commenting, really appreciate it. :o) It's all done with beer and mirrors! Actually, if you mean the "mirror" bit, it's actually a hole in the thin plane and I controlled two identically "dressed" sackboys for the run past and back. Then I cut to a second clip with the back sackboy dressed as pumpkin-head. Thanks to the synced animation of sackboys and the repeatable camera motion, it worked like a charm. :o)

Thanks for commenting. :o) No, it lives in seven separate LBP levels and some of those contain 2 or 3 separate "stages". It would be too huge to fit together in a single level. I did begin to try to assemble some ot it into a level I could "make safe" and publish but a recent LBP update corrupted my (foolishly not-backed-up) save file. MediaMolecule are attempting to repair the file right now. The video took something like 100 - 120 hours over 5 or 6 weeks. Thanks again. ATB

Hi, you are right - it's more than one level and none of them are playable sadly...too easy to die or get stuck! I didn't have playability in mind when I started and trying to put it in afterwards proved to be a big job. Thanks for commenting.

Hi, Luckily, I still had the cable that connected my PS2 to SCART so I used that to connect the PS3 AV connector to the SCART input on my DVD recorder. It meant lowering the resolution to 576 interlaced (which meant re-making stuff that only worked at 720) but it was just good enough, I think. I then copied and converted the DVD VOB files to mpegs using the free convertor called "SUPER". From there I cut the bits together to fit the music using Serif MoviePlus5 . Hope that helps. :o)

You have to get used to the less attractive appearance of it on an HD TV and make sure detailed writing etc. is not too fine. I then converted the DVD VOB files to MPGs on the PC and glued it together in Serif MoviePlus. Came out better than I thought it would. Thanks for the comment.

Hi, LOL - no, I'm not in the band, wish I was that good! I found out about them when their first CD "Milliontown" came out in 2006 and I signed up to the forum straight away. The guys in the band are top chaps and more accessible than many others. I ended up becoming a moderator of the forum (cos I was there all the time!) so I've picked up a lot of stuff. They're great live too - if you get the chance - supporting Dream Theater in Leeds June 12th and Southampton June 13th. Glad you liked it.

The guitarist (John Mitchell) is just a collection of bits bolted together with the right materials where friction was a problem (e.g. glass guitar neck) and careful placement of linkages etc. He started life much bigger & moved even more convincingly (more in time with the solo, correct fretting, etc)...then I realised the camera couldn't fit him in! D'oh! So I had to scale right down and make some compromises to get it to still move at all....

i pick up on a few more really clever jokes every time i watch this. just noticed "Cell Yaw Stocking Cello Side" as the first "Sell your stock in Jealouscide" goes by and "Car Pet Hides(as in animal hides) the Gilt E Duster" and then on to the scale for "Weigh" for "Carpet hides the guilty dust away" very clever, very nice work! i'm quite sure i haven't discovered all of the goodies yet. i'm impressed with how much Frost* goodness you packed in!

Someone sent me a link to this vid a while back because of Little Big Planet. It is brilliantly done, but also it was the first time I'd ever heard of Frost*. The song stuck in my mind for an age before I found it again and looked up the album on Spotify. Now I just can't get enough of this amazing band. So thanks for an awesome vid and for introducing me to Frost*, one of the best bands I've heard in the many years.

@nationofcreationclan ...I got the shapes right by making photo stickers of the component parts (guitar body, neck etc.) stamping them onto blocks of material and then cutting away the excess. It is roughly a scale replica of a Cort guitar, the brand favoured by John. As for the keyboard, it is actually a fully working player piano! The "punch card" behind the keys has hidden proximity switches on it that trigger each key and a sound item that is set to play the right note. I worked out...

The top and the bottom were failrly straight forward apart from pasting the small black square labels down the side of the top - that was hit and miss....mostly miss! You don't see it but there is a hole in the bottom of the thing so that OurHero can "fall through" just before the Tardis disintegrates. The corresponding hole in the floor where the Tardis stands is covered by decoration tiles that look solid but allow OurHero to fall though....otherwise he would have been left standing there!

The last detail is a separate piece you don't see with pair of magnetic switches on a motorised "wheel" making the blue light flash. Hope that helps. :o) If anyone is wondering, the Tardis is there because Jem Godfrey, the guy behind the music, is also a Dr. Who fan and has a full size Tardis in his garden!
