Among the group's best known hits are Pura Candela, Los Charcos , El Preso, Cali de Rumba, Son de la Loma, El Patillero, Tania, Charanga Campesina, El Arbol and Cachondea. "El Preso" in particular is one of Colombia's most widely recognized and beloved songs.
The Cartagenan singer Joe Arroyo joined the group in 1973 and performed with the group for several years before embarking upon a solo career. Wilson "Saoko" Manyoma (of Cali, Colombia), formerly of Los Latin Brothers, and singer of El Preso, was also an important member of the band. He has also embarked on a solo career. Some had said that, without Wilson Manyoma's vocals, Fruko y sus Tesos would not have that flavor of Colombian Charanga.
Ernesto Fruko Estrada began his musical career at the age of 15 when he joined the legendary cumbia group, Los Corraleros de Majagual. It was with Los Corraleros back in 1968 that gave Fruko the first opportunity to travel to New York to witness the city's burgeoning salsa scene.

con mas, Sabor...
Que Nota!!!
Yo soy el punto cubano
que en La Manigua vivía
cuando el mambí se batía
con el machete en la mano.
Tengo un poder soberano
que me lo dio la sábana
de cantarle a la mañana
brindándole mi saludo
a la palma, y al escudo
y a mi bandera cubana.
y a mi bandera cubana.
POR ESO CANTO A LAS FLORES
Y A LA MAÑANA QUE INSPIRA.
LE CANTO A CUBA QUERIDA
LA TIERRA DE MIS AMORES.
LE CANTO A CUBA QUERIDA
LA TIERRA DE MIS AMORES.
Soy la linda melodía
que en el campestre retiro,
siempre le llevo al guajiro
la esperanza y la alegría.
la esperanza y la alegría.
En noches de romería
inspiro a los trovadores,
cantantes y bailadores
gozan con el zapateo
y se olvidan de Morfeo
para tributarme honores.
para tributarme honores.
POR ESO CANTO A LAS FLORES
Y A LA MAÑANA QUE INSPIRA.
LE CANTO A CUBA QUERIDA
LA TIERRA DE MIS AMORES.
LE CANTO A CUBA QUERIDA
LA TIERRA DE MIS AMORES.
Ahora me encuentro en La Habana
entre orquestas y he gustado,
de cha-cha-chá disfrazado
pongo una nota cubana.
pongo una nota cubana.
Aquí como en la sabana
mi música fraternal
viene del cañaveral
representando al mambí,
a la tierra de Martí
y a la enseña nacional.
a la enseña nacional.
POR ESO CANTO A LAS FLORES
Y A LA MAÑANA QUE INSPIRA.
LE CANTO A CUBA QUERIDA
LA TIERRA DE MIS AMORES.
LE CANTO A CUBA QUERIDA
LA TIERRA DE MIS AMORES.
The song "Yo Soy el Punto Cubano" by Fruko y Sus Tesos starts with a shout-out to Arroyo and introduces the singer as the point of Cuba, who used to live in La Manigua during the mambí period. The mambí was a term used to describe the guerrilla fighters who fought for the independence of Cuba in the late 19th century against the Spanish colonial rule. The singer talks about his innate power to sing, which was given to him by the countryside, where he sang to the morning while saluting the palm, the shield, and the Cuban flag. He talks about how he sings to the flowers and the morning sun as an inspiration and dedicatedly pays tribute to Cuba – the land of his love.
He also speaks about himself as a beautiful melody that brings hope and joy to the countryside. He inspires musicians, singers, and dancers to forget sleep and honor him during their nocturnal pilgrimage. In the latter part of the song, the singer talks about being in Havana, dressed in cha-cha-chá attire and representing the mambí as well as the land of Martí and the Cuban flag. He emphasizes dancing and putting a Cuban touch into the music.
