The song "Dönemem" by Funda Arar is about a person who is struggling with conflicting emotions and regrets in a dark room. The person is questioning whether the strange emotions they are feeling are a result of the crimes they may have committed and is grappling with the feeling of regret. However, the person is also questioning if their emotions are instead a result of their relations with someone, specifically with someone in Istanbul, as they mention "Olmamalı asla inanmam" (it should never happen, I don't believe it), indicating that they refuse to believe that it is possible to feel this way towards someone. They describe the person in Istanbul as having furrowed brows and wet streets, suggesting that the relationship is complicated and causing them distress. Despite this, the person states that they cannot handle others coming towards them and that they cannot go back to the past because of their pride.
The chorus of the song, "Dönemem geriye dönemem / Bir deli gururum var / Aşk gurur tanımaz diyorlar, neden yapamıyorum" (I can't go back, I have crazy pride / They say love has no pride, why can't I do it?), describes the person's pride as the reason for their inability to come back to their past or be forgiven for their actions. They also express that they cannot bend in front of someone, implying that they are not able to submit to someone's love. The person mentions that their love is always acidic and that they are restless, lonely, and weighed down.
Overall, the song is a reflection of a person's internal struggles with emotions and relationships, and ultimately, their own pride, which prevents them from going back and finding peace within themselves.
