Florida
Funeral Suits Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Florida, I know
I only see you when you're nowhere to be found
Florida, I grow
In the corridors and tunnels of your sound

The ethers in my eyes again
You're at the Colosseum
The ethers in my eyes instead
You're happier to see them

These tassels on my shoes, they won't come off
(I'm climbing up)
Adventure hooks came crashing off the wall
(To vulture skies)
I caught it all on tape for you to see
(I want to dream)
I'm under all the rocks and ships 'til spring
(I'm climbing trees again)

The ethers in my eyes again
You're at the Colosseum
The ethers in my eyes instead
You're happier to see them

(Just give us one more sleep)
I know you said that one and one is two
Pick the scab and stick it back with glue
(Just give us one more sleep)
I would like to see you once again
In the place where we had all made friends

(Just give us one more sleep)
Cut me out cause I can't cut you in
To the start where all of this began
(Just give us one more sleep)

Drag the bloodied bodies from the shore
Cut me out and I will sing no more

Overall Meaning

The song "Florida" by Funeral Suits is a melancholic reflection on the bittersweet memories of a place that holds a special meaning to the singer. In the first verse, the singer speaks to the state of Florida as if it were a person, expressing frustration at only being able to experience it when it is absent. This comes off as a metaphor for the bittersweet nature of memory, where we are only able to experience the past as a distant memory rather than a tangible presence. The singer goes on to say that they "grow" in the corridors and tunnels of Florida's sound, suggesting that the memories and emotions they associate with the place are what truly make it special.

The second verse is more cryptic and abstract, with references to "ethers in my eyes" and "tassels on my shoes." It's not entirely clear what these mean, but they suggest a feeling of disorientation and a jumbled mix of emotions. The singer seems to be describing a scene where they are recording something on tape while climbing up and exploring various places. The chorus repeats the line about the ethers in the singer's eyes, juxtaposed with a contrasting statement about feeling happier to see them. This reinforces the idea of conflicting emotions and the complicated nature of memory.

Overall, "Florida" is a hauntingly beautiful song that captures the essence of memory and the complex emotions that come with it. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a place that holds a special meaning to the singer, but also conveys the frustration of only being able to experience it through fragmented memories.

@f0rn3v3r tru3 I'm not really good at this but I've done it a few times and I might as well do it here to as I enjoy these kind of reflections.

I immediately jumped to the conclusion that the man in the shuttle had to leave his love mate (or simply someone he was really close to) for undetermined causes, which most likely was against his will and thus lead him to move forward or start anew. I guess leaving earth behind can be interpreted as leaving everything you know behind.

The strange alien creatures could represent unfamiliarity towards a new environment and the unsettling nature of such a situation, thus contributing to the previous theory.

I have to ideas regarding the black hole and what goes after; choose which suits you best.

(a):
The black hole could be represented as the overwhelming feeling of fear when presented to an uncertain future. Once he's inside the black hole, the character appears at to be at peace, clearly surprised and perhaps happy. This could signify that a situation is never as bad as it seems ("don't judge 'till you try it").

The figure that appears and electrocutes him could represent how he held on to the past and that had negative repercussions.

The overall message of this instance could be "go forward and don't look back"

(b):
The black hole is death. The fact that he stumbled upon it so precisely made it look like it was his intention to end his life, even before he left. He also closes his eyes before sealing his fate, probably because he knows what is going to happen and accepts this fate.

After entering the black hole, or dying, he finds himself in some sort of limbo, in which he is tormented by that same person he killed himself for, as maybe that person would have wanted the character to act in another way.

The overall message of this instance could be against suicide.

personally, I like their 3 videos 'Health', 'All Those Friendly People' and 'Hands Down" in that order because they all link to the next. Plus they're just plain weird and leave you with an uneasy feeling. Music is suppose to make you feel something and/or cause a reaction.

Sakura Voyage

This is one of the best music videos I have ever seen! Also, awesome song & band... *replay*
