History
The group appeared on several German compilations and, in 1996, released their debut album Thanks for Nothing. Following the release of two limited edition EPs (Words of Power and Take Care), Funker Vogt signed with the American record label Metropolis Records. Metropolis re-released Thanks for Nothing, followed by the We Came to Kill in late 1997.[1] Kästel and Thomas have participated, as remixers, on Leæther Strip album Yes, I'm Limited, Vol. 2. In 2000, Funker Vogt released Maschine Zeit, followed by the remix EP T in early 2001.[1] Additionally to the core members of the band, concert members also include Björn Böttcher (keyboard) and Frank Schweigert (guitar, he replaced Thomas Kroll in 2004). Kai Schmidt writes most of the lyrics and manages the band through his own management company.[2] They all hail from the town of Hamelin in Germany. The majority of their lyrics revolve around the concepts of war.
A distinctive theme is present in the band's work and stage presence; both their musicianship and their costuming are strongly reminiscent of military music and dress.[3] This military aesthetic is also popular with the band's fanbase. However, the political stance of Funker Vogt is decidedly anti-war; the band cites "war and social injustice" as their primary topics of discussion, noting that the goal of the album Execution Tracks, along with the accompanying video, was to "present the grotesque cruelties and the tragedy of war."
According to the band's website, as of 2011 both Björn Böttcher and Kai Schmidt are no longer collaborating with the band. As a result, Funker Vogt will no longer be managed by REPOMANagement.[4] In 2013, longtime frontman Jens Kästel left the band after his last show on 30 November in Berlin.[5] Four years later in 2017 Funker Vogt reform with a new singer, Chris L. (Agonoize/The Sexorcist).

Animals
Funker Vogt Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
They live all in common
And without self-interest
But we kill them to get the cash
Don't you think that is trash?
We respect the cunning of a fox
But our weekend trip is it's death
And they never get away
We woul like to have
Nine lives of a cat
But we run it over - just once
We envy the birds
They are free what we wish to be
...what we wish to be
But we shoot at them
...we shoot at them
We love them and respect them
We hunt them and we shoot them
We keep them and we feed them
We hunt them and we kill them
Man is just a sly animal
Compare him with all others
And you will see, he couldn't be a friend
The lyrics of Funker Vogt's song Animals depict the paradoxical relationship between humans and animals. The song highlights the human tendency to destroy and dominate everything that comes in their way, even those they admire and love. The lyrics begin with a question as to why humans kill animals and destroy their habitats when they themselves need the company of animals who live together in harmony without self-interest. Humans do not realize that by killing animals for monetary gains, they are discarding a character that they themselves need.
The song goes on to talk about how humans admire the traits of animals, such as the cunningness of a fox or the freedom of a bird. However, they also kill them for entertainment or pleasure, as seen in hunting trips or running over cats. The lyrics also reveal the irony of humans feeding and keeping animals as pets while also killing them for food or sports. The song concludes by suggesting that humans are no better than animals, and they can never be true friends to animals or even to themselves.
In summary, Funker Vogt's Animals is a commentary on how humans treat animals with both love and disrespect, admiration and destruction, and also how it ultimately reveals humans' inability to respect themselves and be true friends.
