So Cold
Further Seems Forever Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How did you find me here?
I covered every track
I kept not souvenir
I left an open pack
To slip the phone under
I let my left hand down
To leave you undetered
I kept my right hand out
To slip the phone under
I kept my right hand
How did you find me here, oh

So cold
So cold
So cold
To find another
So cold
So cold

You find a path to me
From an unwelcomed place
You kept the copy key
Between the skin and lace
To slip the phone under
I let my left hand down
To leave you undetered
I kept my right hand out
To slip the phone under
I kept my right hand
How did you find me here, oh

So cold
So cold
So cold
To find another
So cold
So cold

To find another road
To take me down again
To fix another rule
To try it hard and true
To let it go this long
To point it back to you

So cold
So cold
So cold
So cold
So cold
To find another
So cold
So cold
To find another

So cold
So cold

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of So Cold by Further Seems Forever seem to capture the feeling of being pursued by someone from the past or an unwelcome presence in one's life. The recurring question "How did you find me here?" suggests surprise and almost fear at the unexpected appearance of someone in the singer's life. The first verse indicates that the singer had taken measures to cover their tracks and be untraceable, even leaving an "open pack" to throw whoever was looking off their trail. However, it seems their efforts were in vain, as the pursuer still managed to find them.

The second verse describes the pursuer's methods as insidious, having a "copy key/Between the skin and lace", indicating they had access to some intimate part of the singer's life. The singer seems resigned to this person's presence, almost willing to leave their left hand down to allow the phone to slip under, but keeping their right hand out, as if to maintain some kind of protective boundary.

The repetition of the phrase "So cold" throughout the song adds to the ominous tone, suggesting that the singer is feeling isolated and exposed, and possibly even frozen with fear or uncertainty. The final lines of the song suggest a feeling of exhaustion and resignation - the singer seems tired of the constant pursuit and effort it takes to evade their pursuer, and is perhaps ready to simply "let it go" and accept their fate.

If my math is correct, we get a new FSF album with Chris Carrabba every 11 years. It’s almost 2023, boys!

Okay we've got a little more than half a year remaining, if we don't see a single soon I think it's time to start panicking.

It's refreshing to see actual adults playing in a sick band. So many other bands try too hard to look like they're in middle school. Love these guys!

He, Chris Carrabba, was the original vocalist for Further Seems Forever from 1998 - 2001. you can check out the album "The Moon Is Down" by Further Seems Forever. He left soon after the release of that album to pursue Dashboard Confessional. In between, FSF had 2 different vocalists whom were both very influential on modern rock music like Chris has been. Chris being my favorite FSF Vocalist, this is a reunion that is much anticipated by old rocker dudes like myself! Enjoy!
