Fury In The Slaughterhouse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When the winter came
He forgot to order coats so he shivers
Just himself to blame
And the market wives covered with blankets
I hear them shout in vain
They try to sell their southern fruits
In the icy rain
Slowly comes the wintertime
Snowflakes melting on the engine hood
And all the young girls put on their scarfs
Before they haunt their neighborhood
So sorry that I'm romantic
So sorry that I'm romantic
Hot grey steam out of the drains
I can't see the traffic lights
And the smell of cookies and candles
Ice cold stray skies
Snowballs fly around my head
And Linda's laughing bright
The saucy little skater falls on his nose
And cries soon he's outta sight
Slowly comes the wintertime
Snowflakes melting on the engine hood
And all the young girls put on their scarfs
Before they haunt their neighborhood
So sorry that I'm romantic...
The lyrics of Fury In The Slaughterhouse's song "Romantic" are reminiscent of a winter evening, describing the coldness, snow, and winter routines of people. The song starts with the story of Little Jimmy Watkins who wasn't ready for the winter and forgot to order coats, which made him shiver. The market women try to sell their southern fruits in the icy rain, which shows the struggles of people during the winter. The lyrics convey that winter can be difficult, and people often forget to make the necessary preparations. The song also notes the irony of the situation, as those who should be buying fruits from the market are enduring the hardships of winter, while the market women are struggling to sell their fruits.
The second verse describes the ambiance of winter in the city, with hot grey steam from the drains, snowballs flying, and the smell of cookies and candles, all while Linda's laughing. The saucy little skater falls on his nose, cries, and is soon out of sight. The song paints a picture of winter festivities and the chaos that comes with it. The chorus of the song has the singer apologizing for being romantic, which could mean that they are aware of the difficulties of winter, but despite the coldness, they find the beauty in such situations.
Overall, the song Romantic tries to portray the struggles and beauty of winter, showcasing the different routines, and the different ways that people approach winter.
