The Earth Stood Still
Future of Forestry Lyrics

A simple trip far as they could see.
The sky was clear and the hour serene.
But did they know what the night would bring.
Lonely hearts strung across the land
They've been waiting long for a healing hand.
My heart was there and I felt the chill
Love came down and the earth stood still
Shepherds stirred under starry skies
Tasting grace that would change their lives
The angels trembled and the demons did too
For they knew very well what pure grace would do.
The hope of the world and a baby boy.
I remember Him well like I was there that night.
My heart was there and I felt the chill.
Love came down and the earth stood still
Love came down and the earth stood still
Love came down and the earth stood still
The song "The Earth Stood Still" by Future of Forestry explores the theme of the birth of Jesus Christ and its impact on humanity. The song begins with a teenage girl and her soon-to-be partner taking a simple trip together. Although the sky is clear and the hour serene, the singers note that they do not know what the night will bring. This metaphorical darkness hanging over the scene highlights the unanticipated arrival of Jesus Christ who appeared at a time when the world needed Him most.
The song's chorus repeats the phrase, "Love came down and the earth stood still." The line "lonely hearts strung across the land" conveys a sense of desolation and the universal longing for salvation. The following verse refers to the shepherds who witnessed the star of Bethlehem and with it came grace that changed their lives. Meanwhile, the angels trembled, and the demons were afraid because they knew that this grace would have a powerful effect on the world.
