Rat Race
Fuzz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Guns fire for the rat race
I stumble on my suitcase
The crowd is frozen now
and I am slipping on their ice
Drive backwards down the highway
trees bending through the light rays
I see it now OK
I won't be trampled by my thoughts

Teeth twisting in the heatwave
Day dreaming of a clean wave
I see it go away
My thoughts are sleeping in the dust

until another day
I'll let them curl up in the rust

Overall Meaning

The song "Rat Race" by Fuzz is a reflection of the struggles and pressures of modern life. The guns firing for the Rat Race symbolize the competitive nature of society, where individuals are constantly chasing after success and wealth, often at the expense of their own well-being. The singer stumbles on their suitcase, implying a feeling of being overwhelmed and burdened by the weight of their expectations and responsibilities. The crowd frozen in time represents the sense of stagnation that can come with being caught up in the rat race, where people stop moving forward and lose sight of their goals.

The lyrics then shift to a driving scene, where the singer sees the world through a blurry, distorted lens. The haunting image of trees bending through the light rays suggests a feeling of being lost and disoriented. However, the singer ultimately realizes that they must take control of their own thoughts and actions in order to avoid getting trampled by the demands of their life. The teeth twisting in the heatwave represents the physical toll that the rat race can take on a person, while the daydreaming of a clean wave symbolizes the desire for escapism and a simpler life. The singer reflects that their thoughts are "sleeping in the dust", indicating a sense of resignation and acceptance.

A very cool song of Fuzz! I like it already very much for two years! I think Ty Segall does such a good job by bringing so much cool music out and so much with all his projects! Also this one is very cool! I am love with the guitars of this song! I also really like the voice and the lyrics of the song! It fits so well!

I also saw a live video at the Lowlands festival 2015 or 2016 where they played live some songs. It was so cool to see! They really create an organised chaos and all the people had such a great time and so much fun! It was very nice to see that! I hope to see them live one day and have just as much as fun as those people!
