When You Walk In The Room
Fyfe Dangerfield Lyrics

No-one is pulling me down into the ground
In this moment
No-one is pulling me down into the ground
I can't help it if I'm happy
I can't help it if I'm happy not to be sad
'Cause when you walk in the room
I want you endlessly
I want you endlessly
I want you endlessly
I was tired
Working myself into an early grave
I was lonely
Trying to teach myself how to behave
But these things have their own patterns
These things are fathomlessly out of our hands
And when you walk in the room
I know my life's never going to be planned
All of these old addresses
All of these empty guesses
You carry all of their weight on your back
I want you endlessly
I want you endlessly
I want you endlessly
I want you endlessly
In this moment
No-one is pulling me down into the ground
The lyrics of Fyfe Dangerfield's song "When You Walk In The Room" talk about the singer's elation upon the entry of someone special into his life. The song has an upbeat tempo that matches the infectious optimism that the singer feels when that person walks in the room. The refrain "I can't help if I'm happy" conveys that the singer cannot explain why he feels that way, indicating that the person he is singing about brings him joy without even having to try. The change in the previous feelings he had, i.e., tiredness and loneliness, is emphasized in the lines "I was tired, working myself into an early grave I was lonely, trying to teach myself how to behave."
As the person walks into the room, the singer sees things he cannot comprehend. The lines "I see things that I can't understand" suggest that this person's presence is transformative and that they bring a new and exciting energy to the singer's life. The lyrics, "All of these old addresses, all of these empty guesses, You carry all of their weight on your back" shows that the person coming into their life is carrying past hurt and pain from previous relationships, but they still embody a hope for something new, and the singer welcomes them with open arms, knowing their life will never be the same again when they enter the room.
Overall "When You Walk In The Room" talks about the transformative power of love that can elevate a person's mood from sadness to happiness, be a source of comfort in difficult times, and be an inspiration to hope for the future.
