When Gillum was in the first grade, his mother left his father, an associate professor of art at CSU Fresno. Gillum moved in with his grandparents in Berkeley, California, where he attended Berkeley High School. They later moved to North Oakland, although Gillum continued to attend school in Berkeley. Gillum attended Loyola University New Orleans, where he graduated with a BA in music industry studies in 2011.
Starting out as a record producer, G-Eazy began working on singles while he was still a student at the Loyola University at New Orleans with his producer Christoph Andersson who also was a student there.[4][5] He gained some recognition for being a part of the new hip hop scene back in the East Bay Area, joining with such artists as Lil B, Crohn and The Cataracs.[6][7] He became a member of a local hip hop group called "The Bay Boyz", who had released several songs on their Myspace page.[8]
In 2008, he was performing at a college talent show and was nearly booed off, when Matt Bauerschmidt noticed him and signed him as a client to his new music management company The Revels Group which he started with Matt Davis.

You have to be in love with yourself
You've never been loved before?
I have never felt, I haven't
Bad, bad, bad news
Uh, the look in your eyes, you don't seem halfway
You're scared as you should be (hmm, why would I ever be scared?)
I'm bad, bad news (but I like you)
They don't wanna see a tragedy, uh (so what?)
I'm bad, bad news (bad, bad, bad news)
That's what they all say about me (really?)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
Uh, they don't fit that mold
Everything that shines isn't always gold
You get mad, then your blood runs cold
But I know you don't believe all them lies you're told
That I'm bad, bad news, uh
Just another tragedy, uh
I'm bad, bad news
Why would I give a fuck what they say about me?
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news) You know, uh
What if we make a swell couple?
Best friend thinkin' everythin' about him just spells trouble
Dreams flyin' off the shelves, he probably sells double
Tellin' lies and sinnin', he belongs on a hell shuttle
Fuck, arms covered in tattoos
There's so many taboos 'bout him but she's in love with the bad dudes
She don't listen when her friends say that he's bad news
She knows better, that's my baby, yeah (bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
(Bad, bad, bad news)
In G-Eazy's song "Bad Bad News," the lyrics delve into the complex dynamics of love and self-perception. The opening lines speak to the ephemeral nature of love, emphasizing that it can come and go, and that one must first love themselves before expecting love from others. This notion sets the tone for the rest of the song, reflecting on the common misconceptions and judgments placed upon the singer.
The lyrics then address the doubts and fears that the singer's love interest may have about him. Despite these concerns, the singer proclaims that he likes this person and questions why he should care about the opinions of others. This defiance against societal expectations and preconceptions reveals a sense of self-assuredness in the singer's character.
The chorus of the song reinforces the idea that the singer is often labeled as "bad news." However, it challenges this characterization by questioning the validity of such statements, ultimately suggesting that one should not believe everything they hear about someone. This defiance against the negative labels and stereotypes further emphasizes the importance of individual judgment and self-perception.
Overall, "Bad Bad News" explores the themes of self-love, societal judgments, and the perseverance of an individual's character in the face of adversity. It encourages listeners to question and challenge the opinions others may hold about them, promoting the idea that one should embrace their true selves rather than conform to societal expectations or judgments.
