@seraphyne13 Flexing/posing in rap is nothing new, in fact this song is a very deliberate counter to the boastful styles of Tupac and the NWA in the 90s. You can interpret art however you like (after all, that's the point of art), but I feel this was never meant as a feel good "the real gangsters are kind loving people" type song.
The third verse features a characterisation of HW Bush as a real gangsta for funnelling drugs into poor black communities and sending troops off to die in Iraq for his own pettiness, something the Geto Boys are obviously against. It also features highly controversial public figures/politicians in their description of "gangstas come in all shapes and sizes".
To me, despite the roots of Geto Boys, this song feels more like a satirisation and mocking of people who fetishise the "gangsta" culture and lifestyle. Again, and this is just me, Geto Boys were never about feel hard "get pumped up and add a few pounds to your bench" like DMX, their music is really kind of dark and cynical. Accepting the world as is with no desire to change it as long as they can line their own pockets. Don't let the pleasant melody fool you. Just listen to the last verse again and try to compute and tell me this is a song about empowerment and love and kindness.
