ANALOG
G.R.I.M.M Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stay connected while feeling disconnected
You know this is how we live our lives
The social studies imply that we are buddies
But we've all been hiding knives

The shutter snappin', pics or it didn't happen
If it happens then it happens twice
Once to do it and once for you to view it
Ain't no way I'm missing likes

I don't care about you
Better keep you in my sights
Oh, with all those things that you do
The who, what, where, when, and why

Here's my reaction just for your satisfaction
We got like, love, haha, wow, sad and angry
Your last vacation
Your cousin's graduation
In real life I wouldn't care if you paid me

Is your team winnin'?
Do you have an opinion
On the current events of our time?
I barely know ya but I got time to troll ya
Can't believe you'd vote for that guy

I don't care about you
Better keep you in my sights
Oh, with all those things that you do
The who, what, when, where, and why
The who, what, when, where, and why

I don't care about you
Better keep you in my sights
With all those things that you do

The who, what, when, where, and why
The who, what, when, where, and why

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to G.R.I.M.M's song "Analog" touch upon the irony and detachment that exists in our modern digital age. The opening lines suggest that despite being constantly connected through social media, we often feel disconnected from one another. It highlights the social studies that claim we are all friends, but also acknowledges that beneath the friendly facade, there is a hidden sense of hostility and deception.

The next set of lines delves into the obsession with capturing every moment and immediately sharing it on social media. The lyrics describe the need for pictures to validate and prove the occurrence of an event. It reveals the desire for attention and validation through the accumulation of likes and reactions. The repetition of "once to do it and once for you to view it" emphasizes the need for constant documentation as well as the craving for recognition.

The chorus expresses a lack of genuine care for others, indicating a self-centered focus. The lyrics suggest that in this digital world, individuals are more concerned with keeping others under observation and making sure they stay within their sights. The mention of the "who, what, where, when, and why" implies that people are more interested in knowing the details of a person's life for the sake of their own amusement rather than genuine concern.

The second verse highlights the shallow and superficial nature of our online interactions. It questions the significance of trivial matters such as vacation pictures and family events in real life, suggesting that they hold little value. The lyrics mock the excessive interest people have in other's lives, regardless of whether they truly matter or not. The mention of trolling and criticizing others' opinions and choices further emphasizes the detachment from empathy and the tendency to engage in online confrontations.

The repetition of the chorus reinforces the message of apathy towards others and the importance placed on personal visibility and control. The inclusion of the words "who, what, when, where, and why" at the end of the song signifies the superficiality of our online interactions, where knowing the details of someone's life becomes more important than understanding them on a deeper level or building genuine connections.

Overall, G.R.I.M.M's "Analog" serves as a critique of the superficiality and detachment that characterizes our modern digital age. It highlights the irony of being constantly connected while feeling disconnected and emphasizes the self-centeredness and lack of genuine care that often permeates our online interactions.

Jaap, you are lucky to be able to talk to people who deeply know what they are doing. In audio forums there are many "experts" who remain stuck in past knowledge and are incapable of updating themselves or despise doing so, believing that everything is already explained in audio. I envy you.

Six years ago I started pointing out the problem of phase shift in class D vs class AB amplifiers (diyaudio). Then on the speakers and now I am thinking about their importance at the listening point.

Always keep an open mind... that's the most important thing in science... and life itself.
