Dutton, born in Philadelphia, began playing guitar at age 8. He wrote his first song by the time he was in the 9th grade and began playing harmonica in a wire rack. Dutton credits Bob Dylan and John Hammond Jr., as well as then-contemporary "old school" hip-hop sounds of Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Philadelphia's own Schooly D as influences.
Dutton, still in high school at Germantown Friends School, began playing solo on the streets of Philadelphia. After a year of college, he relocated to Boston, working as a fundraiser for Peace Action and playing wherever and whenever he could. One of his few indoor gigs at this time was a Boston bar called The Tam O'Shanter, where he met drummer Jeffrey "The Houseman" Clemens in January 1993. Dutton and Clemens began working as a duo, they were joined a few months later by bassist Jim "Jimi Jazz" Prescott and became the house band on Mondays at The Plough and Stars in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The name G. Love doesn't really have that much of a story to it. The 'G' stands for Good as said in many radio interviews. He said in an interview that the 'Love' was just there because it sounded right.
G. Love featured Jack Johnson on his 1999 LP Philadelphonic playing an early version of Jack Johnson's "Rodeo Clowns" when Jack was an unknown artist. Jack later featured the song on his 2003 LP On and On.
Known nowadays for his excellent live shows, he is often seen touring with Jack Johnson, who signed G. Love to his record label Brushfire Records. He has made appearances on the records of artists such as Slightly Stoopid and Donavon Frankenreiter.

we're gunna do a, thank you, thank you very much
were gunna do a little thing right now.)
Just sittin' here thinkin' about this life of mine
All of my troubles they're my good times
Black panther cub
gotta lotta love
from the bottom to the top
not your average rig-a-ma-role
just playin' the role
instead I set my path in a bowl
The mic I control with weather control
A cold make 'em lose control
Lo and behold
paint these rhymes candy like a ho on the stroll
Told them its a cold piece of work in the cold world
still my only joy when i hold the flow like the North Pole
All magnetism
Like the nay sayers sayin' Nope!
they can eat crow
i sure improve to approve
they never knew and grew and grew
walked around the locks in a room
when it seemed impossible
still had to do my best
John Henry and had a straight do it
the deal went sour
got the will power
in and out
beat the challenges
whenever however
just say it
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
Just sittin' here thinkin' about this life of mine
All of my troubles they're my good times
Sometimes i wanna just roll down a coast
roll out and post
put away the goals I'm approachin'
and hella chief than blow out the smoke
blows on the curtains
goes beneath below all the surface shit
we hold like the inner flow
that is workin so
?
?
?
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
It's a banger
Just sittin' here thinkin' about this life of mine
All of my troubles they're my good times
Break it off
Break it up
Break it out
shout it out
?
Thrivin' as i'm vibin'
and i'm ridin' high

(Everybody did you enjoy yourself tonight
Did everybody enjoy themselves tonight?
Well let me hear ya say yeah! Yeah!)
The lyrics of the song Banger by G. Love Feat. Blackalicious & Lateef The Truthspeaker describe the introspective thoughts of an artist considering his aspirations and struggles in the music industry. He reflects on his challenges and victories, his love for the craft of music, and the joy that it brings him. He talks about setting his path and being the master of the mic, his will to beat the challenges, and to improve no matter what.
The repeated line "It's a banger" in the chorus emphasizes the artist's belief that his music is high-quality and will capture people's attention. It's a boastful statement about the artist's abilities as a creator, amplifier, and performer of music. The song shows how artists, like the singer, depend on music and their passion for it, to survive in this world, whether or not they achieve commercial success.
Overall the lyrics of the song are about the struggles of an artist in the music industry but also shows the love and passion that the artist has for music.
