Dutton, born in Philadelphia, began playing guitar at age 8. He wrote his first song by the time he was in the 9th grade and began playing harmonica in a wire rack. Dutton credits Bob Dylan and John Hammond Jr., as well as then-contemporary "old school" hip-hop sounds of Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Philadelphia's own Schooly D as influences.
Dutton, still in high school at Germantown Friends School, began playing solo on the streets of Philadelphia. After a year of college, he relocated to Boston, working as a fundraiser for Peace Action and playing wherever and whenever he could. One of his few indoor gigs at this time was a Boston bar called The Tam O'Shanter, where he met drummer Jeffrey "The Houseman" Clemens in January 1993. Dutton and Clemens began working as a duo, they were joined a few months later by bassist Jim "Jimi Jazz" Prescott and became the house band on Mondays at The Plough and Stars in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The name G. Love doesn't really have that much of a story to it. The 'G' stands for Good as said in many radio interviews. He said in an interview that the 'Love' was just there because it sounded right.
G. Love featured Jack Johnson on his 1999 LP Philadelphonic playing an early version of Jack Johnson's "Rodeo Clowns" when Jack was an unknown artist. Jack later featured the song on his 2003 LP On and On.
Known nowadays for his excellent live shows, he is often seen touring with Jack Johnson, who signed G. Love to his record label Brushfire Records. He has made appearances on the records of artists such as Slightly Stoopid and Donavon Frankenreiter.

I ain't saying that they wrong
What but I can't stop moving now
I've got to keep traveling on
Everybody's saying they right
I ain't saying that they wrong
But I can't stop moving now
I've got to keep traveling on
They call life everybody think they
Living so large but they don't feel so nice
Quite removed from a situation
Cut off from circulation
Slip off a rock
My eyes are dialated
All by myself
All by my lonesome
But I keep riding around here
Feeling so strange
Even in my own house I'm going insane
I keep asking God where is my peace
Brung me around see erase it and forget it
Trace it on my stairs
And dogs bark
'cause they're dogs they're barking
I'm so tired of the half hearted ways
Of todays society
Everybody's saying they right
I ain't saying that they wrong
Can't stop moving now
I've got to keep traveling on
Everybody's saying they're right
I ain't saying that they're wrong
Well but I can't stop moving now
I've got to keep traveling on
I sent my check to mexico
I've been drinking pina colada
Where the beaches ? ? ?
And my ? ? ? keep running for the days
Think I'm crazed
But ever since I've lost
My love sweet fancy
My heart has been asleep
Move with the passion
But can't find no relief
See what you do
Women tired of people telling them
What to do
What to wear
Why not to care
Only devils take a chance on a dare
But I ain't no devil
Just looking for some of this old time romance
So people
Shepards get like sheep
Sheep get like shephards
I mix the salt with the pepper
Yeah riding on on my bike
Oh yeah it's still allright
Allright
Oh yeah it's still allright
But everytime that we try to use it
They will try to refuse it
Everybody's saying they right
I ain't saying that they wrong
Can't stop moving now
I've got to keep traveling on
Everybody's saying they right
I ain't saying that they wrong
Well but I can't stop moving now
I've got to keep traveling on
"Keep On" by G. Love is a song that encapsulates the idea of moving forward despite the challenges that arise in one's journey. The lyrics suggest that society is filled with people who are convinced they are right, and the world is quick to pass judgment on others without considering their individual circumstances. G. Love urges his listeners to keep moving forward and not get stuck in their troubles or the opinions of others. He talks about losing his love and feeling lost and frustrated, but still persevering despite the obstacles in his way.
The lines, "Everybody's saying they right. I ain't saying that they wrong. But I can't stop moving now. I've got to keep traveling on," set the tone for the song. The lyrics speak to the idea that everyone has their own opinions, but that doesn't mean they are right, and it's up to each individual to find their own way. G. Love then goes on to talk about feeling disconnected from society, as if he's on the outside looking in. He feels like he's going crazy, and he can't even find solace in his own home. His frustration is palpable in the lyrics, but he doesn't give up - he keeps going, even when it feels like everything is falling apart.
The song's chorus is a repeated reminder to "keep on moving." Whether it's going to Mexico and drinking pina coladas or riding your bike through your neighborhood, G. Love encourages his listeners to keep going despite the opinions of others, the difficulties they face, or the pain they may be feeling. The song's message is one of perseverance, resilience, and hope. Even when the world feels like it's against you, the only way to get through it is by taking one step at a time and keeping on moving forward.
