The group released their self-titled first album in 1994 on Okeh/Epic, a subsidiary of Sony Music. On the strength of the single "Cold Beverage", in part due to MTV rotation, the album nearly went gold. After which, trying to capitalize on the success of the album, the group toured heavily, eventually landing a spot on the H.O.R.D.E. tour.
In 1995 they released their follow up album Coast to Coast Motel. Though it did not sell as well as the first album, it is generally considered among critics as the stronger of the two albums.
On tour following the release of the second album the group nearly broke up, due to bickering about finances. Deciding on a hiatus the three members went their separate ways, working on various side projects.
By October 1997 the group had reconciled their differences and released their third album, Yeah, It's That Easy, which along with their own work, showcased their collaboration with several other bands and musicians, including All Fellas Band, Philly Cartel, King's Court, and Dr. John. This soul-influenced album was more similar to their debut album than their previous release.
Soon after G. Love & Special Sauce set out on another world tour, returning to Philadelphia in 1999 for the release of their fourth album, Philadelphonic. Philadelphonic was followed up with Electric Mile in 2001, an album that shows the wide-ranging influences of the group, incorporating hip-hop, funk, psychedlia, blues, and soul in equal and ambitious measure. Ever the road band, the release of "Electric Mile" was followed by extensive touring.
By 2004 and The Hustle, G. Love (with the help of his bandmates and others) went solo and had eased up a little on the kitchen sink approach, offering instead a cohesive, dry groove reminiscent of his earliest efforts. Hustle was also the first G. Love release under Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records banner; the two had been pals at least since Philadelphonic, which Johnson had been a guest on.
Special Sauce did a series of shows in 2004 with Jack Johnson and fellow Brushfire artist Donavon Frankenreiter, and the trio also found time to issue a brief live EP, titled Some Live Songs.
In the summer 2005, the band was featured (along with the less well known Philly local Chuck Treece of 80's skate-rock band McRad) in an advertisement for the launch of Coca-Cola Zero, featuring the groups own unique version of the noted Coca-Cola advertising song I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.
G. Love's 2nd electrical solo release Lemonade also included Special Sauce on some tracks. Jack Johnson, Tristan Prettyman, Ben Harper, Jasper, and Blackalicious also contrbuted.
G. Love still continues to tour with the Special Sauce in the meantime.

Tomorrow night I'm goin' home
Goin' to see my friends and my family
My dog my old brown ? ? ?
That's an ice ? ? ? cool for
Good stuff down on the south side
They keep me flowin'
Good times is goin' smiling and rolling
Used to be with me
Gonna catch my love on this weekend
If she's still speakin' to me
Come'on jenny lee
Gotta get you into my ride
Gonna drive all over the city tonight
Checkin' down by the river
Two tired to go ? ? ?
Yeah, tomorrow night I'm goin' home
Well tomorrow night I'm goin' home
Welcome home boy
Well how you been
Its good to see you
Hello friend
You've got a fine car
And some cool threads
Its good to see you
Well hello friend
I had to leave my home and get out
I've been all around town to town
Room to room
Moon to moon
Found my groove ? ? ?
Smooth as I should be but there's time changing
Then I ? ? ? myself
Watch out every door is on my trail ? ? ?
Comin' down like hail
I lose 'em now
I'm homeward bound
I've seen the past flash in my eye
Days like clouds in the sky
Talk about the days
Will listen but I can't hear
Yesterday yesterday
Ready for some cookin'
Mom's fixin' chicken
Strawberry rhubarb crisp
Its good like this
Later on I gots ta go see the catman
My boy ? ? ?
I don't know got some new girl
Every time we speak
Freaks glazed in the heat
Coolin' on second with the wet green sneaks
And this course ? ? ?
Feelin' nice
I'm goin' home
I'm goin' home
Yeah, tomorrow night, I'm goin' home
Oh, tomorrow night, I'm goin' home
Yeah, I'm goin' home
The lyrics of G. Love & Special Sauce's "Tomorrow Night" describe the singer's anticipation and excitement to return home. He is looking forward to seeing his friends and family, his dog, and his old neighborhood. The singer paints a vivid picture of his hometown, describing the ice-cold beer, good food, and good times that are waiting for him. He also expresses a desire to reconnect with an old flame, Jenny Lee, and take her for a ride in his car to explore the city.
The second verse of the song sees the singer being welcomed back by his friends and family, who are happy to see him after his time away. He reflects on his travels and the places he has been, but ultimately realizes that there is no place like home. He speaks of the simplicity and comfort of home-cooked meals, and of visiting old friends like the mysterious "catman" and his buddy with the "green sneaks." The song ends with the singer eagerly looking forward to finally being back home.
Overall, "Tomorrow Night" is a nostalgic and upbeat tune that celebrates the joys of coming home after a long time away. It is a reminder of the importance of family, friendship, and the comfort of familiar surroundings.
