Extension to Nothingness
GAEREA Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We nothing are but the ashtray of our own unattainable dreams
Shadows of what we once were
The clock is slowing ticking
On our way we should have run faster
The truth is out there
And as an extension to nothingness
We turn our back to the light
For they hold the digit that colors the sky
As a burning attempt to burn us all
Just a form, not a human
Just a number, not a face
Just another lost maggot in this puile of rotten bodies
Just a number, not a face
Just a code, not a soul
We all know suffering is so much better
Its odor is worth worship
Like the pale creature once told
I envy who all the world holds
Hid as they climb
Those lying bodies rot
Underneath the falling laws
Just a form, not a human
Just a number, not a face
They deny both fear and time
Just a number, not a face
Just a code, not a soul
And as their fall begins
Joy and calm takes over
Till death shows its cards

Till the void opens once more
No last tales shall be told

Overall Meaning

Gaerea's song Extension to Nothingness is a deep reflection on the inevitable demise of human beings and the futility of dreams. The lyrics suggest that we are nothing but the ashtray of our own unattainable dreams, meaning that we are the discarded remains of our own aspirations. The concept of shadows of what we once were highlights that we are nothing but mere traces of our former selves.

The clock is slowly ticking, indicating the passage of time and the race against it, suggesting that we should have run faster on our way. The truth is out there, waiting to be discovered, but as an extension to nothingness, we turn our back to the light. The light symbolizes hope and positivity, but we refuse to face it, implying that we have given up or accepted our fate.

The lines, "Just a form, not a human, just a number, not a face, just another lost maggot in this pile of rotten bodies, just a code, not a soul," convey the idea that individuals are seen as mere statistics and not as human beings with unique identities. People suffer and die, and their lives are reduced to meaningless numbers. The lyrics suggest that suffering is something we should worship, indicating that there is beauty in pain.

Further, the lines, "I envy who all the world holds, Hid, as they climb, those lying bodies rot underneath the falling laws," suggest that the privileged ones who hide behind the safety of their wealth and power envy the decay and destruction that the rest of us experience. The song concludes by asserting that there will be no last tales that shall be told, indicating that after we die, there will be no more stories to tell.
