The truth
GOO Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Truth is a whisper and only a choice
Nobody hears above this noise
To the
It's always a risk when you try to believe
In this
I know there's so much more than me yeah

Yeah I got caught in the ruse of the world
It's just a promise no one never keeps
And now it's changing while you sleep
And no one here can see

You know all I am
Feel this moment in you
You know all I am
Can you teach me to believe in something

Sometimes you choke on the smell
Just to breathe
I need to question what I need
Rhythm of silence
That beats through your mind
Still you forget what you deny yeah

And I got caught in the ruse of the world
It's just a promise no one never keeps
And now it's changing in your sleep
And no one here can see

You know all I am
Feel this moment in you
You know all I am
Can you teach me to believe in something

Who's the one you answer to
Do you listen when he speaks
Or is everything for you

And do you find it hard to sleep
Or is it easy on your own
And will you ever find some peace
Before you're gone

You know all I am
Feel this moment in you

You know all I am
Can you teach me to believe in something

Overall Meaning

The song 'Truth Is a Whisper' by Goo Goo Dolls is a deeply reflective piece that delves into the idea of believing in something amidst the chaos and noise of the world. The lyrics suggest that truth is often spoken quietly, like a whisper, but when the noise of the world becomes too loud to hear it, it becomes harder to believe. The singer laments how he got caught in the "ruse of the world", where promises are made but never kept, and everything seems to be changing while we sleep.

The chorus, where the singer repeatedly asks "Can you teach me to believe in something?" is a plea for guidance in a world where it is easy to lose faith in anything. The bridge poses deep questions about the listener's own beliefs, whether they find it hard to sleep and will they "ever find some peace before [they're] gone".

Overall, the song appears to be about the search for meaning and hope in a noisy and uncertain world. It reflects the human condition in its rawest form - wondering about what's real, hoping for something better, and searching for truth amidst confusion.

This show is amazing. I remember watching for the first time, had no idea what I was getting myself into. I actually got a little scared by how on the nose this show gets about different topics.

Apollyon Noctis

For those who are confused, the poem is about self righteousness, and how it can spread like a disease. It’ll grow and spread, the belief becoming unquestionable and unchallenged, until eventually, the whole world risks going blind. Soon what should be wrong can be seen as right in the eyes of the self righteous, bad becomes good, 2+2 equals 5, who is anyone to argue with those ‘in the right’? And worst of all, it’s nearly impossible to bring this problem up without being called or even looking self righteous yourself, just as I literally am doing in this comment. As the episode’s ending puts it:
“Here’s the proof that it’s real: I’m rubbing mine now.”
