Unfortunately Faure never got as well-known as he should have been. He is one of few classical composers with a truly unique voice and harmonic language that deserves much more of an audience. His sense of melody is remarkable - absolutely stunning, and since he has this otherworldly quality, all his music is quite something to listen to.

Couldn't agree more! Very well put.

He was very well known while he was living, similar to composers such as Alkan, Mozkowsky, Medtner he's since fallen out of popularity for whatever reason. Thankfully these composers are becoming much more recognized thanks to youtube and pianists such as Marc Andre Hamelin championing their works..

?? In Britain Faure is very famous - one of the greats

Henrik Larsen Faure's Requiem is,apart from the Messiah, the most frequently performed and recorded large-scale choral work, certainly in the U.K., equally popular with professional,semi-professional and amateur choirs.
I once heard it performed at a funeral service by eight professional singers and an organist...very moving.😙

Jean-Philippe Collard in my experience really understands what Faure is all about. I always listen to his interpretations as a starting point. Very respectful and authentic!

What magnificent music that only an excellent and sublime composer like Faure could written. The lyricism of the ballad is fabulous and of admirable beauty and delicacy.
The pianist is amazing not only for the sensibility he puts in his performance, but also for the very fine technique he employs. Viva the music of Fauré and its incomparable beauty.
