2). Gaia is an alias of dutch trance producer Armin van Buuren. It was first used back in 2000 for an uplifting trance track produced for the 4 Elements festival in Holland, also titled 4 Elements. He abandoned the majority of his aliases soon after and focused on producing under his own name. However, in 2009 he resurrected the Gaia alias with Tuvan, a track produced with Benno de Goeij from Rank 1 exclusively for his A State of Trance 2009 compilation that had many parallels with his classic work. In 2010 he continued the tradition by producing Aisha for the A State of Trance 2010 compilation, also featuring heavily in the 450th episode of his radioshow.

6). Gaia are based in South Yorkshire and were formed in 1996 after Dave and Iains first band "Strawberry Hill" split up in the early 95. In 2002 John Westy and Dave got together and have been the cornerstones of the band. Steve G joined in 2008 after the departure of long time serving drummer Steve Booth and the band are back on fire with a new album, "Sun into gold"due out in 2010 after four years since their first album attempt namely "Soulwind". This next attempt is simply more than before and has been a pleasure to create. Gaia will be gigging regularly over the next year promoting and selling what will be the bands best work so far.

How do you define a fantastic melody? Because the song on here has relatively little new to offer in comparison to what Armin/Gaia normally does. You may like what you hear but that doesn't make it any different to what you're used to hearing again and again. I used to love this stuff until I realised it was essentially the same song over and over with a few minor differences. Without hearing a song like this ever before, I can guess exactly whats going to happen and when its going to happen. A great deal of people enjoy 'safe' music like that, because you know even before going in that you will get exactly what you want and expect. Nothing challenging or adventurous about it (in other words, boring). And the euphoric hands in the air sections are the most obvious of all. Its creating euphoria in the exact same way over and over. Its like having sex in the exact same position in the exact same way a billion times over (only with different people). Orgasm or not, it gets a little old after a while. Its nice to hear the euphoria done in a different way, without the arpeggios all the friggin time (which to me just sounds like the Super Mario theme done in slightly different ways each time). True that all genres tend to get a little repetitive and overdone after a while, but again thats the same as sex. And this genre of EDM and modern mainstream "trance" has been repetitive just like this since its inception. The creators haven't even tried to add variation (or if they have, they've done a poor job). And I don't see Armin trying to break out of that typical repetitive build up and drop tune. So yes, drops are stupid because to someone whose woken up and wants something more, its creating euphoria in the same damn way over and over. You prove my point by stating that you tend to skip to the drop. If you have to skip half the song to get to the "good part" right in the middle, the creator has clearly done a shit job. Using the analogy again, that's like fast forwarding sex just to get to the orgasm part. If you don't enjoy the rest of it too, then you're not doing it right. The mix you linked is pretty much the style I was alluding to but I personally don't like that mix. I know all the artists on it, and I don't particularly find any tracks they make to be outstanding. But see if you can easily pick out a formula that these songs all share:

I'll give you one thing. By far the best track produced by AvB in years now is Last Stop Before Heaven. However, still very similar euphoria. At least its not the typical EDM build up and drop though.

This song goes beyond beauty, the emotions and feelings it brings me are indescribable by words, no other music genre can bring up such emotions, I am really glad I found trance in my life!
