Original members Monty Colvin (Bass, vocals), Alan Doss (Drums, vocals), Ben Huggins (Lead vocals, guitar), and Dane Sonnier (Guitar, vocals) released their self-titled album in 1991, with the follow-up "Space In Your Face" in 1993. Sonnier then decided to leave the group. The band returned in 1996 with album number three entitled "Machine Fish" on Metal Blade Records, along with new guitarist Wally Farkas.
It was in 1997 that they released "The Horse That Bud Bought", which was a minor departure for the band. They used a similar songwriting style but lightened the tone. The music contained a more rock feel, with less metal leanings. The music for the next two albums, "At The End Of The Day" and "Let It Go" also were also similar in this regard.
After 2000's "Let It Go" the Cowboys decided to disband. The former members of the band continued to be active in the music scene, until the original lineup reunited in 2017 for the album "Long Way Back to the Moon".
I Can't Wait
Galactic Cowboys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Shouting to the ground below
People running here, people running scared
Hiding in the shadow
Turn a blind eye, turn a deaf ear
It's all so hard to handle
All the changing minds and changing of the times
I care more 'cause I know what's in store
I care more because I know the score
I can't wait!!!
A nut case in a tower polishing his holy gun
Reciting a nursery rhyme
Mama picks the kids up, gives them both a kiss
And drives them in a lake to die
People in confusion, people in despair
Solution's elemental
When all the psychological metaphysical self help
Mumbo jumbo seems so farcical
I care more 'cause I know what's in store
I care more because I know the score
I can't wait!!!
I can't wait!!!
The lyrics of the Galactic Cowboys' song "I Can't Wait" talks about two extreme scenarios that people often encounter in their lives. The first scenario portrays a prophet standing on a rooftop, trying to warn people of the impending danger. However, people fail to take heed, and they continue to go about their daily lives as if nothing happened. They turn a blind eye and deaf ear and are unable to handle the changes in society. In contrast, the singer feels that he cares more because he knows what's in store, and he can't wait for people to recognize the danger that lies ahead.
In the second scenario, the lyrics depict a "nut case" in a tower polishing his gun and reciting nursery rhymes. Mama picks her children up, gives them both a kiss, and drives them into a lake to die. The chaos and confusion that follow this event are elemental, and people feel helpless. The singer feels that when all the psychological, metaphysical self-help mumbo-jumbo seems farcical, he cares more because he knows what's in store. He can't wait for people to recognize and respond to the severity of the situation.
Overall, the lyrics are a commentary on how people often ignore warning signs and fail to recognize danger until it's too late. The singer feels that he can't wait for the world to wake up and take action to prevent catastrophic events from occurring.
