Pretty Thoughts
Galimatias Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You looked at me with certainty
I couldn't look away
Took your jacket off like
Like you were here to stay
Chasin' your pretty thoughts
And your plastic love
There goes my mind
Let it go
You're that lace trimmed danger
One day you'll be the face of a stranger, stranger, stranger

I couldn't look away
Chasin' your pretty thoughts
You're mine
You're sinking' in my soul
Chasin' your pretty thoughts

I can't look away
Chasin' your pretty thoughts
You're mine
You're sinking' in my soul
Chasin' your pretty thoughts

(Chasin' your pretty thoughts)

In intervals you're sinkin' in
You're sinkin' in my soul
Thought to myself, don't,
Don't you lose control
Started to undress you, with my wandering eyes
Told myself you'd be gone by sunrise
'cause you're that lace trimmed danger
One day you'll be the face of a stranger, stranger, stranger

I can't look away
Chasin' your pretty thoughts
You're mine
You're sinking' in my soul
Chasin' your pretty thoughts

I can't look away
Chasin' your pretty thoughts
You're mine
You're sinking' in my soul
Chasin' your pretty thoughts

(I can't look away)

(Chasin' your pretty thoughts)

Overall Meaning

In Galimatias's song "Pretty Thoughts," the artist sings about the intense attraction he feels towards someone he just met. He is unable to resist their allure and is captivated by their certainty and the way they look at him. The person takes their jacket off, as if they plan to stay a while, and the artist finds himself chasing their pretty thoughts and plastic love. He feels his mind slipping away but cannot help but be drawn to this person who represents a dangerous but irresistible thrill. Despite telling himself not to lose control, he begins to undress the person with his eyes, knowing that they will likely be gone the next morning. The artist knows that this person is a risk and will inevitably become a stranger, but he cannot help wanting to pursue them and is willing to lose himself in their pretty thoughts.

The lyrics of "Pretty Thoughts" describe a common human experience: the intense attraction and infatuation that we sometimes feel towards another person. The artist's descriptions of the person he is pursuing capture the sense of desire, urgency, and danger that come with these emotions. By using language like "lace trimmed danger" and "plastic love," Galimatias suggests that this attraction is not necessarily healthy or sustainable. Nevertheless, the artist is willing to lose himself in pursuit of this forbidden pleasure, even if it means that the person will inevitably become a stranger. In this way, the song explores the pull of our desires and the way they can lead us into dangerous territory.

(feat. Galimatias)

You looked at me with certainty

Chasin’ your pretty thoughts
You’re mine

I'm beginning to realize that these type of songs are not meant to be heavily deconstructed lyrically, it's more about the overall atmosphere and experience of listening to the song as a whole, the feeling you get when you listen to it.  Take the movie directed by Christopher Nolan, Interstellar, for instance.  If I deconstructed the plot and science behind it, I would not like it, but as a whole, the awe inspiring shots combined with the epic musical soundtrack produced by Hans Zimmer make the movie worth watching again.  That being said, this song is bearable to listen to multiple times because there are not overtly suggestive or perverse lyrics.  The message seems to be about someone looking at another person who inspires "pretty thoughts" for the moment before they become a stranger again, but that is not why I like the song, I like it because of the feel.

@FloatationSwag

Well said my friend. Agreed!

@3ziz1981

FloatationSwag agreed too

@DemarcusRichardson

I disagree with you, my friend. I think the lyrics are supposed to be heavily dissected and interpreted in many different ways.  The atmosphere is overwhelmingly perfect, but I've personally felt every word and this song means something terribly deep to me.
