Gameface, having been around for over a full decade, has chosen to stay with sounds that work for them, rather than trying to copy the latest combinations out. Yet it has managed to combine some of the best elements of emo, pop, hardcore, and punk. Their catchy melodies permeate with a heartfelt, honest rock mood that retains the wild and friendly indie sound.
In 1995, Dr. Strange released the band's self-titled EP, along with the band's first full album, Three to Get Ready. Two albums, Reminder and Good, came out to excellent reviews in 1997. Dr. Strange also released Cupcakes, a melancholy EP that remains a favorite. By 1999, the band had played five major U.S. tours and one in Europe, and signed on with Revelation Records. Every Last Time came out in 1999, followed by What's up Bro (a split with Errortype: 11) in 2000. Also in 2000, Revelation released Always On, the group's first straight rock & roll that didn't include a lot of punk. Firefly Recordings in England released a five-track EP, Feels a Lot Better, in 2001. The EP includes several songs from Always On in addition to covering versions of Elvis Costello's "Everyday I Write the Book" and Morrissey's "Sing Your Life," plus an acoustic track from Caudill's solo project, the Way Back.
The bandmembers prefer to play live for if they can't reproduce a sound live, then they don't want to record it. In May 2001, Guy Julian (bass) joined the lineup, adding a new layer of fun to Gameface's playing.

The Pirate Song
GameFace Lyrics

Slow down the bandwagon
There's a million reasons
I don't want to be here
But you don't know me well enough
To be the last on my list
What did I miss?
You win the most points
I hope you're getting this
Beacuse I don't know when I've been this good
You don't know what it's like
To be a slave and not get paid
Why don't you save it
Don't even try to erase it
Because that's the way it is
And I hope it makes you sick
That I'm not even warmed up yet
Make your last word hurt
Before you let me go
Next time I see you
Don't be in the front row
Slow down the bandwagon
I'd like to say something
And I hope it makes you sick
That I'm not even warmed up yet
The first verse of GameFace's "The Pirate Song" seems to be directed at someone, specifically someone who has been riding the "bandwagon" and has won "the most points." The singer seems to be unimpressed and uninterested in being associated with this person, but doesn't feel known well enough by them to be openly confrontational or dismissive. They may be expressing some frustration or disappointment in the dynamic between themselves and this person or group of people, and suggest that they haven't even shown their full potential yet.
The second verse takes on a more serious tone, addressing the frustrating experience of feeling like a "slave" and not being compensated for their work. It's unclear exactly what type of work the singer is referring to, but this could be interpreted as commentary on the exploitative nature of certain industries or jobs. They seem to be imploring the listener not to try and dismiss these frustrations, insisting that "that's the way it is" and that it should make the listener feel sick. Again, there's a sense of the singer being underestimated or undervalued, and they suggest that they haven't even fully expressed their grievances yet.
