My first pokemon game was white and I never really bothered with the battle frontiers until the battle tree so it was just really frustrating

This got really long so I'll add this. TL:DC - Battle Tree is more stupid and always bring a Pokemon with Taunt.
Nope, it got worse with the Battle Tree. I remember the Battle Frontier, Battle Tower, Battle Resort and all the other versions clearly and they were hard and occasionally pulled some bullshit on you. But the Battle Tree is worse than all of them, the AI isn't based around just beating you anymore, after about a 30-40 streak it stops trying to win with just counters and type advantage or gimmicks like Gengar with Hypnosis. I had 3 battles in a row with the same 3 enemy pokemon just with different ev spreads and moves, none of which were damaging moves, all just healing, stat boost, paralyze or confuse.
They even brought in pokemon that are just tank with a dual boosting move and healing. eg. A team of Clefable (Minimize, Wish, Moonlight and Cosmic Power, holding Leftovers), Vespiquen (Defend Order, Heal Order, Confuse Ray and Attract, holding Quick Claw) and Palossand (Sandstorm, Shore Up, Stockpile and Swagger, holding Smooth Rock).
The only way I beat this is because I got lucky hitting the Clefable after boosting 3 swords dances on my Incineroar, they sent out the Vespiquen and it got Quick Claw proc and confused me, I hit myself, he got another Quick Claw proc and attracted me, this went on for 6 turns where I ended up knocking myself out with confusion, I sent out my Silvally and managed to Iron Head flinch it to death and then the Palossand came out, used Sandstorm and just trolled me with 100% health every Shore Up and +3 Stockpile until it eventually ran out of PP.

You think that's bad? I got flinch locked by Iron Head against a Cobalion - for three turns. The bastard used Metal Burst and killed my Mega Salamence with less than a quarter HP, but he did enough damage to my slower Tapu Fini with that crap to finish me off with his Latias!
Gamefreak better be giving out legendaries and mythicals for Sun and Moon or I'm straight out gonna PokeGen everything. I'm getting ticked off about that damn Cobalion and the fact that I can't use my Magearna!
