In Unova, there's a cave called "Cave of Being" and the description said, "the deepest part connects to Sinnoh." What if the absolute mad lads pulled a Johto and gave us a second region to explore in the post game (obviously not a Unova remake, just a sort of remaster)? The mad lads could pull it off to. And obviously, it would be Unova from the sequels. Man, THAT WOULD BE HYPE! Oops, sorry for yelling.

I hope we can catch Dialga and Palkia in their own dimension this time like how you can catch Giratina in the distortion world. Maybe for Dialga, there’s some spots where you move really fast, and really slow, and for Palkia, maybe you can be reallly floaty. I also hope you can ride on them like you could in Latias and Latios in Oras, and Solgaleo and Lunala in USUM

It would be cool that in Palkia's dimention, there are hidden teleportation spots everywhere. In DIalga's dimension, there are spots that reduces or increases your pokemon's level by 1 to represent their aging. Of course it would be reverted to normal after leaving the location.

In Sword and Shield, the story experience was so utter gargabe, I can't even remember a single city.
You are warped around, can always take exactly one path, are always exactly told what to do and where to go with literally no chance of doing anything else.

Same but I wasn't thinking of connecting to the badges. My thoughts were several areas could have their own enclosed encounters, and maybe after you've dealt with a number of them (maybe half?), they move onto the next step since you weren't there to stop the other half. Maybe if we really wanted to be ambitious, details in the 2nd stage of their plans would change depending on which things you stopped and which you didn't.

Okay, so I've had this thought as well. Without much thought, here's what I've thought:

Honestly, complete open-worldless wouldn't even be fun, but having choice would be amazing. Giving each gym leader their own story would be super cool, with some gyms you can do out of order, and then a gym you have to do after a specific amount of gyms are already done. For example, lets have gyms 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. You could do 3142, and then 5 is forced once you do those gyms in whatever order you choose, allowing freedom WITH storyline also having it's flow. Just like it was said in the video, your rival and other specific events could be made to happen at any of the gyms you choose, in whatever order they were in during your playthrough. Paths from and to places could also be more choice-filled, so that you would still have things to find, even after beating your game.
I think the above is a good compromise between storyline and freedom, while also being a tangible idea for GameFreak. If anyone finds this and has other ideas, I'd love to hear them; scrolling through this comment section was really interesting.

I mean they gave the answer in Pokémon origins. When you go do gyms in any order the leader asks "how many badges do you have" then their difficulty will adjust to that.

One thing I liked about Diamond and Pearl is how some gym Leaders were more specialized in a move rather than a type

Candice although an expert in ice types also had Pokemon like Medicham which knew Ice Punch

And Voltner had a mixed team like Blue that all knew the move Charge Beam

I absolutely loved this video and agree with everything you have said! The visuals were great when you would pair up the screenshots from Diamond and Pearl with the Sword and Shield ones! The BOTW visual with the volcano when you kept talking about open world Sinnoh was amazing as well - my mind was substituting the volcano with Mt. Coronet. Keep up the amazing work man!

@Campos Jesus Every time Pokémon does something new and revolutionary people complain and just ask for remakes of old games. Love the old games and definitely want remakes, but it's annoying to hear people complaining about no Sinnoh remakes literally the moment every game since ORAS has been announced. Gen 5 - GameFreak decides to focus more on story and reboot the series by forcing players to use all new Pokémon that could be balanced better and focuses on creating the most unique region, yet, then people complain about every little thing in the game. Gen 7 decides to focus a lot more on story, character development, and introduce a ton of worldbuilding with Ultra Beasts and the Multiverse, people complain about it being too linear and how they don't care about the story. Gen 8 tries to make a much more open and unique world with the Wild Area and introduce raids and the champion cup to change the formula and provide new ways to find Pokémon, people complain about no national dex and the story. Literally every new thing they do gets overshadowed by people complaining about other things that were different in a previous game that people finally decide years later that they like (BW being the best example). I'm not saying there are no valid criticisms, but with a fanbase this toxic and afraid of change, it makes perfect sense they would want to change as little as possible over time.

As much as I like the ideas there are a couple things about this (both good and bad).
1. The idea of having in-game events happen despite the order of gyms you challenge, is possible. It's completely doable, but I'm not sure if the coding and planning team at Game Freak are willing to do that/able to do it. That being said, now that they're moved into a new building closer to Nintendo HQ they might be able to get some extra help here and there.
2. The fact that they work on projects for at least 2 years before release, means that the next games are already in development and if it is the Gen 4 remakes (i bet they are) they most likely won't be fully open world. Especially if you're right about them using SwSh as a testing grounds for this feature.

While I would love that it would be pretty hard for the gym leaders since they would have to make 8 different teams and level scaling would be extremely hard since you wouldn't know how much training you had to do. I feel like the difference with Zelda that it's not with levels its with experience and skill learned.

Imagine if like you’d go into an entire AREA with Pokémon you’re not strong enough to fight yet so YOU have to run. (In an open world game). Imagine the satisfaction you’d feel coming back and catching one of those Pokémon that gave you trouble before. Same with trainers. Trainers you physically could not beat and would lose until you trained up. A hard game with deep story. Or at least a hard mode and an easy mode for kids.

I feel like we could have Oreburgh/Eterna as section 1, Hearthome/Veilstone/Pastoria as section 2, then Canalave Snowpoint and Sunnyshore are 6 7 and 8 respectively (depending on when you get "surf" Canalave could be locked or not). Windworks would happen before you can pass Coronet, Marsh would happen after Wake, and the Library would happen whenever you get your 6th badge.

See, I had an idea for Game Freak. Port all the games before XY to Switch in a "Bundle" of sorts. So its like one game that you buy and you get to pick one version of all of them. So when you boot it up it asks "Would you like Red or Blue" then "Would you like Gold or Silver" and so on. And then maybe you could like pay for the opposite versions as another bundle for like $30 or the 3rd/4th versions. Then when you send them to Home they have a tag from whatever game they come from. So like a fire or leaf symbol for fire red/leaf green

I would be cool if the start of the game was linear until like level 30s maybe like a training with a group of friends then you get to go a huge wild area like place with 8 gyms all scattered around and each one you beat raises the levels of the rest and lots of side quests for training and items. The gyms in different order could make sense. Before the battle they check how many badges you have and have a different team to be according to such. You can't say that's unreasonable because they literally do it SwSh, having different teams for the final tournament battles.

its kinda funny how you mentioned Kanto as an exampple of beeing "linear" cuz out of all the regions it felt most "open"
well let me explain. it also comes into something i want in a open world pokemon aswell. First things first, as you said, overworld can and will feel overwhelming. Zelda does it great in the way that it starts you off in a fairly small kinda linear area first to get you used to the world in a mostly easy and save way. and kanto felt for me the same way. the first 3 gyms are very strait forward not much to them. But after clearing the dark cave alot stuff opens up to you. before you do gym 4 you can do all the team rocket and pokemon tower stuff, going to gym 5 then heading over to gym 7. or you can do silph co and then beat gym 6 etc. Of course its not too open but the possibilitys always made it interesting for me.
What i would want from "open world" pokemon is short linear start, like 1 or 2 gyms. then 3 through 8 can be done in any order and cities and routs can be explored in any order and then you go to the final act like evil team elite 4 etc

Actually I think the first at least 3 gyms should be rather linear because say for instance you start a sinnoh game and you do volkner or Candice first, so like by time you get to those gyms you might have like level 35 Pokémon if not higher unless they start you at a different starting town which I highly doubt

The first time you fight the evil leader makes perfect sense for this, and I also think it'd be cool if you weren't required to beat your rival every time, just that maybe it would change their dialogue and make it actually feel like a rivalry rather than absolutely destroying a kid over and over, but that might be too ambitious for GameFreak

What if they made it so that events triggered after you gained a certain amount of badges , which could be gained in any order, and if you try and continue to the next gym it would be locked or there would be a reason for the gym to be closed. Then, on your map would be a marker indicating where a story event is taking place.

All I want for them to do is to add Paul as your second rival it would be amazing like Barry is your main rival and you have similar events to ash where you would fight Paul like at lake verity (dunno if that’s the right lake or even if I spelled it right it’s been a while since I’ve played or watched hahaha) and also make dawn more involved or just put in all the characters from the anime they were so good for contests and personality like that would be so good you can do all the contests as well as gyms or either or it be so cool to battle for top coordinator against zoey like dawn did and Paul’s team would be so strong making the game a challenge too. Sinnoh is my favourite region and gen 4 in general is my fav so I hope they make it great!

If an open world Pokémon game happened, I would want it to have like 10 or 12 gym leaders like Unova or the unmentioned ones in the anime. Or like in sw and sh where instead of some gym leaders being decided through the version, like bea and allister, you just get to pick. Only 8 would be required, but there would be a few extra ones just for fun or for choice

Why are people acting like we've been waiting for Sinnoh remakes for a long time? People have been acting like this should be the next Pokémon game since ORAS came out and getting mad every time a different game is announced. Obviously they weren't coming out until after Sword and Shield. Each remake comes two consoles after the one the original was one. Kanto - Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, Johto - Gameboy Color, DS, Hoenn - Gameboy Advance, 3DS, Sinnoh - DS, Switch. Unova remakes will be whatever comes out after the Switch.

apparently the official adjective for sinnoh, is 'sinnohan', probably pronounced something like 'sinnowan' (based on a sinnoh poffin advert in thrifty megamart)
sinnohan regional variants...
some of the other regions' adjectives are:

the thing about monotype is blue as the 16th gym leader. he uses a crazy team of any pokemon. I think its explained ingame that its easier to do monotype but youre special because you can command pokemon of any type

Sure, but then level scaling would be necessary, wouldn't it? Which means depending on when you challenge trainers, they'll need to have different evolutions/movesets/items etc. That would increase development time by probably 5x at least. But it would be fun.

I’d be happy with an open world game, however I don’t think they dined to do that to make the game feel less linear. Kind of like with Xenoblade Chronicles. Yes you do have a big area to explore, however its level design is pretty linear. Having more side quests would also help with making the games less linear. Giving each area more stuff to do in them would help a lot as well. Not having rush toward the story points to play the rest of the game.

I find that gym leaders focused on gimmicks or build styles rather than types would be more interesting.

So, for instance, a poison gym leader wouldn't necessarily be super-focused on poison-type Pokémon, but on poisoning. Mons would have Toxic, Toxic Spikes or at least a Smog-like move, or maybe one mon in particular would be armed with a trapping move to mess with already poisoned opponents.

A water gym would bring rain teams, so there could be the off Electric type armed with Thunder, for instance.

I feel like the open world feel of Pokemon wouldn't be that good with gym leader involvement in the story, but what if instead of open world, you can make choices, choices beyond yes and no. say if you were given a choice to join the enemy team, you can chose to do that and have a completely different ending. Pokemon is incredibly linear not just because of the road you travail on, but because the story is always the same. Once you complete your first play through you just start mashing A, you know exactly what happens. So it would be cool to alter the story as you play based on your decisions.

Ok but what about gym leaders like Blue and Volkner? Volkner hadn't had a good challenge in forever so he wanted someone with the rest of the badges (aka Sinnoh STRONK) and Blue was just after Kanto (which you could do the rest kinda randomly)... But Norman would have been cool in an open world Hoenn. Kind of like a "you have to be this strong to pass" type of guy.

I understand what you mean and I think that would be a great idea but I believe what's really holding the game back are the overworld models still working on a tile-based system where they run, stop, turn around and continue to run or the infamous Zacian/Zamazenta walking animation while the model was turning around in one spot. I feel like if they could polish that aspect the games, it wouldn't feel as dated in areas.

I believe swsh's wild area and especially the dlc was as test bed for reinventing the core pokemon gameplay we may hope for in gen 9 (becoming open world and such). Like the wild area in the base game may have seemed like a staple feature of swsh but the dlc really drove it home for me with its own little miniature story and I feel the way the Isle of armor story and exploration worked could very well be scaled up into a full blown pokemon game. However I do not see them doing something that drastic for sinnoh remakes. Much like oras I think it'll just be a much more modern updated version of the game in the current swsh game engine with some new mechanics akin to soaring and other fun features and maybe some extra story bits. But definitely won't go as far as making it open world or anything crazy. I just hope that when they do decide to do a game like that, they build it in a nicer game engine cause everyone's aware of the issues swsh has but I never had high expectations from the start since it was the first new non-remake title for the switch. I'm excited to see how they will step it up for the next games. Like going from xy to sm/usum the improvements in the game engine was very drastic and I think going to gen 9 will be very similar. At least I hope so.

Imagine if after the nimbassa city gym, in black in white, you got access to the rest of the map, you can challenge gyms 5-8 in any order and story event will trigger as you go on.

Lets say you want to pick volkner as your first gym and by that time you get there your team might be like in 40s and fighting against a gym leader whose team is lv 10 wouldnt be that fun

I want a better story to. Or at least a more developed one. They could do a similar thing to the LoZ franchise where they made a massive and challenging open world game with an awesome story and characters that look cool and scary; and then a SEPERATE, minimal effort game for babies and children with a cutesy art style. If pokemon did the same, where they make "let's go" a franchise, and make them games for babies shitting in their diapers, and then making a seperate game that would take you at least a month to beat instead of a week or two. The "let's go" can be cute and hold your hands. They don't even have to change features. Then pump massive amounts of money and creative energy towards a Gen 9 game (or even Sinnoh remakes) to make it a masterpiece 10/10 game. Pokemon isn't taken seriously anymore by anyone but their own fanbase. These games can put them in the spotlight, and bring millions of people to Pokemon.

Sinnoh as a region lile the landmass itself with the way it leads people through it would be the best region for an openworld game as it already has proper use of enviromental guiding and if hm's are removed then you would have the guide while having the ability to just say f it and go whereever you want

I think the best idea for Diamond and Pearl remakes is to have a setting where you can change the graphics to the og style from Gen 4 in a similar style to Dragon Quest XI S so that if you want the good graphics you can have the good graphics but if you want nostalgia with the pixel art (which I find superior in many situations) that would be amazing.

The only problem I had with Platinum is that cynthia doesn't do anything in the distortion world, like she talks to cyrus. Then makes us fight him and giratina, I hope the remakes they pull a hop where cynthia and you in the post game work as a team to defeat giratina (and later catch). Who is level 70ish.
