Voyager
Gamma Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

GAMMA ' VOYAGER

The dark of the sky ' the light of the moon
The solitary figure will be home real soon
He has braved the storms of time ' his life is on the line
He's been prayin' to his saviour
Please take me away from here
The man on the ship - has a lot to fear
He hasn't seen home - in almost a year

When darkness falls ' he goes by the stars
Getting directions from Jupiter and Mars
It was he who created this strife
He is fighting for his life
He is longing to see ' His wife and his family

CHORUS then SOLO

Well will things be the same '
When he gets home again
Will his children still remember '
The man who went away
The year that has gone past '
All the places he has been
He'll remember to the last '
The worlds that he has seen

CHORUS

Oh oh oh

Fade to end

Overall Meaning

In the song Voyager by Gamma, the lyrics depict the life of a lone traveler who has been on a mission for almost a year. The traveler is eager to return home to his wife and family, but he has been enduring harsh times throughout his mission. The song sets a mood of melancholy with lyrics like "He's been prayin' to his saviour, please take me away from here." The traveler's fear is real as he navigates through the dangers of the journey using the stars as his navigation guide. The lyrics explain how this traveler created the strife he is encountering on this journey, and he is now fighting to save his life. The chorus sets a thoughtful tune as it's sung and the solo ends with a reflective tune that takes the listener back to the traveler's year-long journey.

The song holds underlying meanings of the hardships that people face when embarking on journeys far away from home. The traveler's fear and longing to be with his family and the thought of things not being the same when he returns sets a tone of unrest, which is familiar to many. The Voyager probably signifies human aspirations and the struggles that come with it. The chorus especially takes us through the emotions of leaving one's loved ones behind as we pursue our dreams.

One of the greatest guitarist in the world. Last time i seen ronnie montrose, we were standing around the pool table talking. I told him i couldn't believe I've been listening to him for over 30 years, he laughed and said " you are getting old.". Sure do miss going to his shows. RIP Ronnie.🎶🎶🎸🎶🎶😎

Saw them with AC/DC, in 1980. Uniondale, Long Island, NY.
The crowd went nuts after this song. Rest in peace, Ronnie.

@bradb3248

Saw the same tour in Columbus, great show, by both bands!

All I can say about this song is....WOW!!!!! A perfect "blend" of Ronny Montrose and Davey Pattison with all the flavor of a classic bluesy Robin Trower song. This is my favorite Gamma song. The entire album is very good for those who have not yet had a chance to listen to it. This is one of those songs that really challenges your car amplifiers and speakers.....as well as your ability to play air guitar. Ronny Montrose.....RIP. The world just got a whole lot worse without your music.

@wadeharten6600

That guitar solo sends chills up my spine every time. Thank you Ronnie RIP.

Sitting in the hood of the car, looking at the stars up in the mountains with this song blasting, the summer this was out was awesome!
