He started out in the mid-1980s deejaying on various sound systems and even recording the occasional track under the moniker "Little Bimbo". By the first part of the 90s, his locks had grown out and he went from deejay to singer, changing his name to Garnett Silk.
Silk was born Garnett Daymon Smith (2 April, 1966) in the Brumalia district of Mandeville, Jamaica. He was taken under the wing of Rasta deejay Tony Rebel and introduced to Sugar Minott's Youthman Promotion sound system, which had a hand in recruiting many young acts who later became international stars.
Along with Rebel, Silk reintroduced Rastafarianism into a dancehall scene which by 1992 had become nearly overwrought with X-rated and violent lyrics. He burst on the scene recording many hit tunes and albums, including "Nothing Can Divide Us", "It's Growing" and "100% Silk".
Tragically a fire at his mother's house on 9 December 1994 killed both Garnett and his mother (with Garnett first escaping then giving up his own life trying to save his mother's). The Jamaican reggae scene was shocked by his death and it is a testament to his talent and his amazing voice that his music is still selling worldwide today, possibly stronger now than it did before his untimely demise.

The song Every Knee Shall Bow by Garnett Silk is a powerful and deeply spiritual message about the greatness and blessings of God. The lyrics are a call to action for all those who believe in God to do his work and to give thanks and praises to Him. The opening lines of the song say that the Lord is blessed, and so are those who do His work. The lyrics go on to say that whoever receives those sent by God, is receiving Him. The song is a call to all believers to acknowledge that God is the highest, and all knees will bow, and every tongue will tell of his greatness.
The song also speaks about the importance of prayer and recognizing God's provision in our lives. The artists speak of the love and joy that God brings and how He guides and protects us along the way. They acknowledge that they might have been wrong before, but they promise to be better friends to God in the future. The song ends with a call to all true Rastafarians to help sing this song and acknowledge Jah as the highest.

Every morning, I wake up feeling close to God. I pray for the capsizing of ships carrying wickedness. I want them to realize that I only recognize God. I remember the ten virgins that were chastised, with five being foolish and five being wise. Someone has peed in the water about baptism, but Cocoa Tea and I won't compromise. We give thanks and praise to Selassie-I, the King.

But we bless thee for your everlasting shield
We thank God for all the love and joy he brings us. He guides and protects us, making provisions for us every day. Therefore, every life must pray on their knees, as I have said. Mighty shepherd, we can't thank you enough, and your immeasurable love can't be described. We bless you for your everlasting shield.

Emperor God Selassie the First, Jesus Christ in his kingly character did not come as a lamb to be slaughtered. He's a conqueror, the Alpha and Omega, Acadama iiba, Ashanti I, Jah! Rastafari lives in our hearts, and Jah is the Lightning God, Thunda God, and Earthquake God. Rasta fari, King Haile, Haile Haile Haile-I, do it! Jah will break their bands asunder and cast away their bad thoughts from us. It is a must because he who sits in Mt Zion will laugh. Jah has them in the region. Well, if you're a true Rasta, help Cocoa and Garnett sing this song. Jah Man, all knees shall bow, and every tongue shall declare that Jah is the highest.
